  • Pre-tournament longshots Wofford and Furman meet in the Southern Conference championship game on Monday
  • This marks this first time since 2014 that the #1 seed hasn’t reached the final of the Southern Conference Tournament

The #5 Furman Paladins (25-8, 17-12-1 ATS) will face the #6 Wofford Terriers (18-15, 15-17 ATS) in the final of the 2025 Southern Conference Tournament on Monday, March 10, at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, NC (7:00 pm ET). A berth in March Madness awaits the winner. Neither team has a hope of an at-large bid, so it’s do-or-NIT for both sides. The Paladins enter the finale as slight betting favorites in Monday’s college basketball odds.

The college basketball public betting trends show the public hammering the Paladins on the moneyline. As of 4:49 pm ET, Furman was getting a massive 87% of moneyline handle on 82% of the ML tickets. The public also had lopsided action on the over, with 89% of game-total handle on over 137.5 on 87% of the O/U tickets.

The teams split their regular-season meetings with each winning on the other’s court. Wofford dominated an 81-62 decision in Greenville on Jan. 13, but Furman answered back with a 78-75 victory in Spartanburg on the final day of the regular season.

Both teams have been hugely impressive in the conference tournament. Wofford ran over East #4 Tennessee State (72-60) and #7 VMI (85-65). Leading scorer Corey Tripp (14.4 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 3.0 APG) led the way with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and, as a team, the Terriers went a solid 41.4% from three.

Furman had a tougher road to the final, crushing #3 Samford (95-78) before eking out an 80-77 OT win over #1 Chattanooga. Leading scorer PJay Smith Jr (17.7 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 3.8 APG) had a team-high 25 points in the semifinal victory, going 5-of-8 from three.

Furman vs Wofford Prediction

In my view, the wrong team is favored in the Furman vs Wofford odds. The Terriers finished with a much less-impressive win/loss record, but they also played a tougher schedule. They rank higher at KenPom (120th vs 135th) and, when you look at the two regular-season games between the teams, were considerably better over the full 80 minutes.

During the road win, Wofford opened up a 40-17 lead late in the first half and it was never seriously threatened in the second. In the home loss, the Terriers fell in an early 12-0 hole and still trailed by double-digits at the break, but they fought all the way back to take a 74-70 lead with under a minute to play – with their win probability jumping to 90.2% at that point. The Paladins clawed back to tie it before a PJay Smith Jr near-buzzer-beater.

I’m also targeting over 137.5 tonight. The regular-season meetings between these teams hit 143 points and 153 points. KenPom, Torvik, and Haslametrics project a total of 143, 141, and 141, respectively.

The postseason tends to bring out more defensive intensity but these are not good defensive teams. Furman sits 136th in offensive efficiency at KenPom and 167th on defense. The Terriers have an even bigger discrepancy: 74th on offense and an ugly 219th on defense.

The total has been lowered too much purely because it’s a do-or-die game.

My Wofford vs Furman Picks:

  • Wofford moneyline (+105)
  • Over 137.5 (-110)
