Sportsbooks have begun releasing Sweet 16 odds for the third round of the NCAA Tournament as the matchups get finalized. In the first official Sweet 16 showdown, Texas Tech has opened as a 4.5-point favorite over Arkansas.

Michigan, meanwhile, is expected to keep rolling against top-seeded Auburn. However, oddsmakers aren’t totally bullish on the Big 10 continuing their winning ways, as Purdue is a notable early underdog against Houston.

The table below lists the odds for all available games and will be updated as more Sweet 16 matchups are set.

Arkansas vs Texas Tech Opening Odds

The first matchup to be officially finalized in the Sweet 16 odds is No. 10 Arkansas battling No.4 Texas Tech. The Razorbacks are writing quite the Cinderella story, having defeated 7th-seeded Kansas in their opening game before stunning 2nd-seeded St. John’s 75-66 in the second round.

Arkansas was not among the top 20 teams in KenPom rankings entering the tournament, which historically has been a strong indicator of Final Four potential. That’s just part of the many reasons oddsmakers have opened the Sweet 16 odds with TTU as nearly a 5-point favorite.

Texas Tech punched their ticket to the Sweet 16 with a convincing victory over 14th-seeded UNC Wilmington in the opening game of the tournament. The Red Raiders followed that up with a 77-64 statement victory over 11th-seeded Drake in Round 2.

When we analyze this early matchup, Texas Tech has a clear advantage in offensive firepower, particularly from beyond the arc. TTU makes over 10 three-pointers per game, highlighted by their program-record 13 buckets from downtown in the tourney opener vs UNC Wilmington.

Arkansas’ physicality is going to be the key to a third consecutive upset bid.  The Hogs are masters at drawing fouls and getting to the line, averaging 20.7 free throw attempts per game. Their defense has been a nightmare for opponents, forcing 11.8 turnovers per contest.

John Calipari’s squad can’t let TTU’s perimeter-oriented offense stretch Arkansas’s defense and create mismatches. If they can limit Texas Tech’s 3-point opportunities while exploiting their own size and athleticism inside, they have a chance at pulling off another stunner.

Michigan vs Auburn Betting Line

Another Sweet 16 matchup recently finalized pits No. 5 Michigan against top-seeded Auburn, with the Tigers opening as 7.5-point favorites. The Wolverines advanced by taking down UC San Diego in a tight first-round contest before erasing a double-digit deficit against Texas A&M, closing on an impressive 25-9 run to secure their spot.

Roddy Gayle Jr. was the man for Michigan in their second-round victory, pouring in 26 points, while the frontcourt duo of Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf owned the paint with a combined 37 points and 21 rebounds.

Auburn has looked every bit the one-seed, handling Alabama State before dispatching eight-seed Creighton 82-70. Freshman Tahaad Pettiford provided unexpected firepower with 23 points off the bench, while Chad Baker-Mazara and Denver Jones added 17 and 15 points, respectively.

This matchup presents a fascinating clash of styles. Michigan’s defensive strength lies inside, where they’ll need to contain Wooden Award contender Johni Broome. However, Auburn isn’t one-dimensional – they shoot 36.6% from three, giving Bruce Pearl’s squad multiple ways to attack.

For Michigan to pull off the upset, they’ve got to limit turnovers against an Auburn team ranked fifth nationally in turnover rate. The Wolverines’ big men must neutralize Broome inside while keeping their efficient offense humming.
