Maryland Betting Trends

Maryland had a nightmarish game in Ann Arbor as it missed its first 10 shots and fell behind 17-0.

The Terrapins shot a miserable 26.5% (28 of 68) and connected on just 5 of 25 three-point attempts for 20.0%. They were also outrebounded 49-30 and allowed Michigan to shoot 50.0% (28 of 56).

Maryland was led by junior guard Jahari Long’s nine points. Leading scorer Jahmir Young was held to five points as the senior guard was just 2 of 9 from the floor.

Young is averaging 14.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game after transferring from Charlotte.

Senior forward Donta Scott is scoring 12.6 points and pulling down 6.2 rebounds a game. Senior guard Hakim Hart has averages of 12.4 points and 5.1 rebounds. Sophomore Julian Reese is averaging 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds despite being hindered by a shoulder injury.

Maryland has an outstanding defense, ranking 49th nationally in points allowed (63.2), 46th in opponents’ field goal percentage (39.7) and 21st in three-point percentage allowed (28.2).

Conversely, the Terrapins are 309th in three-point shooting at 30.8%.

Rutgers Betting Trends

Senior guard Cam Spencer’s three-point field goal with 13.3 seconds remaining was the game-winner for Rutgers at Purdue. He finished with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Senior guard Paul Mulcahy had a big game with 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and no turnovers. Rutgers also got 12 points from Clifford Omoruyi.

Rutgers played its usual suffocating defense, holding Purdue to 39.6% (19 of 48) from the field. The Scarlet Knights are fourth in the country in scoring defense (55.2), fifth in field goal defense (36.3) and third in three-point defense (25.0).

Omoruyi leads Rutgers with 14.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots a game. He ranks third in rebounds in the Big Ten and fourth in rejections.

Spencer leads the conference with 2.6 steals a game after transferring from Loyola (Md.). He is also scoring 12.9 points and corralling 3.6 rebounds a game.

Junior forward Aundre Hyatt has a 10.5 scoring average while Caleb McConnell is doing a little bit of everything with averages of 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals, which is third in the Big Ten.

Mulcahy is fourth in assists (4.6) and fifth in steals (2.0) while scoring 8.0 points per game.

Like Maryland, Rutgers struggles from beyond the arc. The Scarlet Knights’ 31.3% on threes is 301st in Division I.

Maryland vs Rutgers Prediction

The teams split their two games last season, with each winning on the road. Maryland won the second matchup 68-60, though Omoruyi had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Rutgers.

Suffice it to say, Rutgers might be in for a letdown after its big upset. However, the Scarlet Knight’s defense should help them prevail.

Pick: Rutgers -5.5 (-110)

Season record: 17-12 (+4.8 units) ATS, 0-3 (-3.0 units) ML
