The Texas Tech Red Raiders (21-6, 14-2 home, 12-4 Big 12, 15-12 ATS) put a six-game home win streak on the line on Monday night when they host the Big 12-leading Houston Cougars (23-4, 8-0 away, 15-1 Big 12, 15-12ATS), a team that hasn’t lost a true road game all season. Tip-off is set for 8pm CT/9 pm ET at United Supermarkets Arena and the Houston vs TTU point spread could scarcely be narrower.
Houston vs Texas Tech Odds
The Cougars come in as 1.5-point road favorites and -120 on the moneyline, which amounts to a 54.55% implied win probability. The Red Raiders come back as even-money home underdogs (50% implied win probability) in Monday’s college basketball odds. The total is sitting at 131.5 in a game between two of the slower-paced teams in the nation.

Houston is 12-14-1 over/under so far this season and averages 75.1 PPG while allowing just 57.7 (132.8 cumulative). Texas Tech is 14-12-1 O/U, averaging 81.4 PPG and allowing 66.5 (147.9 cumulative).
Houston is currently the third-favorite in the updated March Madness championship odds at +800. Texas Tech is just outside the top ten at +3500.
Texas Tech handed Houston its most-recent loss, eking out an 82-81 OT victory in Houston on Feb. 1, led by 23 point from Chance McMillian. LJ Cryer had 22 for Houston in a losing effort.
But since that loss – which remains the Cougars’ only conference setback – Houston has rattled off six straight wins, including road victories over Colorado (69-59), Arizona (62-58), and Arizona State (80-65).
TTU, on the other hand, is just 4-2 since the upset victory over the Cougars, though both losses came on the road (82-73 at Arizona, 69-66 at TCU). Their last loss at home was a, 85-84 OT heartbreaker against Iowa State.
HOU vs TTU Player Props
TTU leading scorer JT Toppin (17.3 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.0 APG) has the highest point total of the night at 16.5, followed by Houston leading scorer LJ Cryer (15.0 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 2.0 APG) at 14.5. TTU’s Darrion Williams () is the only other player in the teens.
Chance McMillian (15.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 1.7 APG) is noticeably absent from the player props. The TTU sharpshooter, who’s connecting at an outstanding 45.4% from three, injured his foot last week in a 69-66 loss at TCU and then sat out the team’s 73-51 rout of West Virginia at home.
At the time of publication, it’s still unclear if he’ll be in Monday’s lineup.
Houston vs Texas Tech Picks & Predictions
TTU’s win at Houston was one of the most-impressive of the season by any team. But it hinged on doing two things that almost few other teams have been able to do this season: hang with Houston on the offensive glass and outshoot the Cougars from beyond the arc.
Houston sits 11th in the nation in OR% (37.8%) and fourth in three-point percentage (40.0%). TTU is a respectable 42nd and 14th in those categories, respectively.
With the status of McMillian still uncertain, I like the Cougars to exact a measure of revenge against the team that soiled their previously unblemished Big 12 record.
I’m also targeting the over. These teams combined for 144 in regulation time in their first meeting, and both are averaging over 131.5 PPG on the season, and KenPom projects a 68-67 scoreline (135 points).
HOU vs TTU pick:
- Houston moneyline (-120)
- Over 131.5 points (-110)
