The #9 Creighton Bluejays (25-10, 20-13-2 ATS) made a statement in their first-round matchup with Louisville, blowing out the Cardinals 89-75 in Lexington, Kentucky. But the road only gets steeper from here as Greg McDermott’s team is projected to face #1 Auburn (28-5, 17-15-1 ATS) in the second round of the South Regional on Saturday, March 22nd. Auburn was up five on Alabama State (29-24) at the time of publication and entered that game as a massive 32-point favorite, so oddsmakers were comfortable posting the opening Creighton vs Auburn odds well before the final whistle.

Creighton got a huge performance from 6’5 senior guard Jamiyah Neal (11.5 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 4.4 APG) in its 89-75 win over Louisville. The Arizona State transfer poured in a game-high 29 points and also led the Bluejays in rebounding (12) and assists (6). Sharpshooting Steven Ashworth (16.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 6.8 APG) added 22 on a 4-of-8 performance from three.

Auburn was in full control against Alabama State but that game may come at a cost; 6’6 senior forward Chris Moore (10.7 MPG, 1.2 PPG, 1.6 RPG) appeared to injure his leg midway through the first half and walked, slowly, to the locker room immediately thereafter, despite earning two free throws on the play that injured him. While he doesn’t stuff the stat sheet, Moore is one of eight Auburn players averaging double-digit minutes per game.

Auburn’s ratings are from prior to their win over Alabama State.

Auburn outstrips Creighton in basically every meaningful category. The one area where Auburn has been vulnerable is allowing offensive rebounds; the Tigers sit just 215th in DREB%. But that’s not something Creighton is likely to be able to exploit. The Bluejays are 272nd in Division I in OREB%, despite all their size.

Auburn didn’t play any teams from the Big East all season. Creighton played two SEC opponents, losing to both Texas A&M (77-73 neutral) and Alabama (83-75 away). Auburn was just 1-2 against those two opponents in conference play.
