The 12th-seeded Colorado State Rams (26-9, 22-13-0 ATS) surprised a few experts with an opening eight point win over Memphis. We’re get to see them up against a bigger challenge when they take on the #4 Maryland Terrapins (26-8, 18-15-1 ATS). Maryland has shown the ability to play against far heavier competition. However, this is the NCAA Tournament and anything can happen.

This matchup in the West Region tips off on Saturday at 7:10pm ET from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington with TBS providing the broadcast coverage. Take a look at these Colorado State vs Maryland odds, player props plus a few betting predictions.

Colorado State carried a nice winning streak into the tournament. Then, the Rams finished a nice 78-70 win over the 5th-seeded Memphis Wildcats behind a second half surge that Memphis had few answers for.

Their overall numbers picked up in the second half (+13 point differential) behind six-three pointers from Kyan Evans. Colorado State was out-rebounded on the glass 40-29 (15-11 on the offensive side). The Rams did get the Wildcats into foul trouble.

Maryland had an easier time with a 81-49 win over the 13th-seeded Grand Canyon. The Terrapins outscored their opponent by double digits each half and easily covered the generous spread.

Now, Maryland got Grand Canyon into early foul trouble and held them to 28.6% shooting (21.7% from beyond the arc). The Terrapins never were truly threatened from the opening tip.

Colorado State vs Maryland Public Betting Splits

The March Madness public betting splits are not too surprising. If we’re talking spread, 61% of the bets and 66% of the money have the Terrapins covering. Maryland gets 92% of the bets, 81% of the money on the moneyline bet.

Looking at the game-total.

The game-total betting sides with the Over: 54% of the bets and 56% of the money is on the two teams cruising over the total of 142.5.

Colorado State vs Maryland Predictions

Can Colorado State get off to a better start? During their winning streak, they have had to engineer several comebacks.

Then, there is Maryland. Holding Grand Canyon to 49 points is one thing but Colorado State has proven they belong. Maryland is more balanced than what most pundits give them credit for and they even rank 5th in defensive rating. Kevin Willard’s team is not all about offense (81.6 points per game).

Now, the problem for Colorado State is if Nique Edwards goes cold again (team-leading 18.9 ppg), does Kyan Evans or Jalen Lake pick up the slack again? Edwards shot 3-for-13 against Memphis and had quite a few wide-open looks.

Bluntly, when Maryland is rolling, look out! The Terrapins have won 16 of their 26 games by more than 10 points.

Now, can Maryland follow Michigan into the Sweet 16?

That being said, the Terrapins rank 11th in the KenPom and would likely be in the Top 10 if not for several bad luck losses (see Michigan State).

While Colorado State is on a nice streak, Derik Queen and Julian Reese buoy one of the most balanced teams left in the tournament!

I like the points here to come through late. Maryland has scored 80+ points in three straight games. Colorado State has averaged around 80 points per game since February 15th.

The Under appears the safer pick with Maryland’s defense while the Over could back in especially if Colorado State gets on a hot stretch.

Simply along with a Maryland cover, expect the points to be enough to find a way on Sunday night.

Could Maryland’s ability to get to the foul line be a help to some of the player props? Maryland averages 20.4 free throws a game compared to Colorado State’s 17.7. It is not a big difference like the turnover margins (+4.1 for Maryland and -0.3 for Colorado State). However, these numbers could bear fruit later on.

The bigger question may be can anyone on Colorado State slow down Derik Queen. He is a center of attention with a lower prop total than Nique Clifford.

For those looking at double-double props, Queen is likely to get 20+ points and 10+ rebounds. Queen will attempt more than nine shots in this game.

As for Colorado State, Kyan Evans might not lead in assists but his 2.5 number could connect on the over by halftime. Keep an eye on how his steals and point total props move before gametime.
