Sebastian Fundora Boxing Analysis

Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) claimed the vacant WBC super welterweight title and seized the WBO belt from Tim Tszyu in an absolute war last March, winning by split decision. Standing at a towering 6’6″ with an 80-inch reach, the 27-year-old southpaw holds massive physical advantages over basically everyone in the division.

“The Towering Inferno” overwhelms opponents with his freakish size, constant pressure, and high-volume punching. He showed improved boxing skills in the Tszyu fight, utilizing his long jab to keep the Aussie at bay before opening up with combinations. However, Fundora is also perfectly happy to stand toe-to-toe and trade in a phonebooth despite typically having a huge reach advantage.

Fundora’s only career loss came against Brian Mendoza in 2023 when he got clipped and stopped in the 7th round. Aside from that minor hiccup, he’s steamrolled the competition at 154 pounds. In his last outing, a bloody Fundora rallied late to edge Tszyu on two of the three scorecards after suffering a broken nose early on.

To retain his titles against Chordale Booker, Fundora needs to establish his jab, maintain a high pace, and use his height and reach to keep the smaller challenger on the outside. If he can avoid getting drawn into a brawl, his size and skills should prove too much for the untested Booker.

Chordale Booker Boxing Analysis

Unheralded southpaw Chordale Booker (23-1, 11 KOs) comes into this massive opportunity riding a 6-fight win streak since suffering his lone career defeat against Austin “Ammo” Williams in 2022. The 33-year-old Connecticut native holds wins over respectable veterans like Greg Vendetti and Brian Damian Chaves.

At 5’9″ with a 70-inch reach, Booker will be at a major size disadvantage against the 6’6″ Fundora. To have a chance at pulling off the upset, he’ll need to swarm the champion from the opening bell, get inside Fundora’s long jab, and unload combinations to the body and head.

Booker has never been in a fight of this magnitude before, and it’s a huge step-up in class for him. He’s a big, strong super welterweight, but his power (11 KOs in 24 fights) is underwhelming. Fundora has also never been stopped by body shots, so Booker will likely need to target the head to get the champion’s respect.

In Booker’s last outing, he scored a 3rd round TKO against the overmatched Brian Damian Chaves. However, he had some trouble in the early rounds with Chaves’ pressure. Fundora will bring relentless pressure from the jump, so Booker needs to be prepared for a firefight.

While Booker is a solid pro, he hasn’t shown anything in his career thus far to suggest he’s ready for an elite challenge like Fundora. His best chance of winning is to try and turn this into an ugly brawl and test Fundora’s suspect chin. Barring a lucky punch though, it’s difficult envisioning a realistic path to victory for the huge underdog.

Fundora vs Booker Prediction & Best Bet

Although Chordale Booker is a respectable contender with an impressive record, he simply hasn’t faced anyone close to Sebastian Fundora’s level. In his only step-up fight against unbeaten prospect Austin Williams, Booker was dominated and stopped within a round.

Meanwhile, Fundora has consistently proven himself against far superior opposition. His split decision win over Tszyu was one of the bloodiest battles in recent memory and proved the freakishly tall champion can dig deep in the trenches. Even his lone career loss against Brian Mendoza is better than any name on Booker’s resume.

Skill for skill, this is a huge mismatch in Fundora’s favor. He’ll have massive advantages in height, reach, experience, and power. Booker’s only real path to victory is to somehow get inside Fundora’s jab and turn this into an inside brawl. But with a 10-inch reach deficit, that’s much easier said than done.

Look for Fundora to use his jab, movement and size to keep Booker at bay early on. Once the challenger starts taking heavy leather, expect Fundora to open up and score a mid-rounds stoppage. Booker is tough, so he may last a while. But ultimately “The Towering Inferno” should smother his overmatched foe with volume and force a referee intervention.
