Gervonta Davis’ Return to 130
Gervonta Davis is an unbeaten knockout phenom with stoppage victories in all but one of his professional outings. He captured gold at 135 pounds in his last bout but is making a rare move down to once again hoist gold at 130 pounds.
After a diligent training camp at Mayweather Boxing Club, Davis will look to add another one to the highlight reel on Halloween.
With the left or right hand, @gervontaa has the most devasting KO power in the division. It's one of the reason's fans love him and fighters are afraid of him.

A big topic of conversation heading into this fight centers around Gervonta Davis’ weight. He needed two attempts to make the 135-pound limit when fighting Yuriorkis Gamboa in Davis’ last outing.
This is worth noting because Davis is expected to make the 130 pound limit for this upcoming fight. Past issues with making weight resulted in Davis having to forfeit his IBF 130 pound gold so this weekend will be a telling moment for him.
Leo Santa Cruz’s Path to Be a Five Division Champ
Santa Cruz’s resume is rock solid having the distinction of being a four-division titleholder (bantamweight up to super-featherweight).
His lone pro defeat was via decision to Carl Frampton, which Santa Cruz avenged in the next outing by besting Frampton on the judge’s scorecards. Leo Santa Cruz is riding a five-fight win streak heading into this bout.
An opportunity to hold a title in a fifth division awaits Leo Santa Cruz on Saturday night.

Santa Cruz has the edge in terms of professional experience as he enters the ring for his 40th pro bout this weekend. His veteran ring savvy and proclivity for volume punching will be his stylistic hallmarks through this fight.
I think the preternatural knockout power of Davis and the unique footwork/ angle opportunities from his southpaw stance will be big aspects of the story that unfurls in the ring.
Davis vs Santa Cruz Tale of the Tape
23-0 | Record | 37-1-1 |
22 | Knockouts | 19 |
5’5.5 | Height | 5’7.5 |
67.5″ | Reach | 69″ |
Jose Pedraza, Francisco Fonseca, Yuriorkis Gamboa | Significant Wins | Carl Frampton, Abner Mares, Miguel Flores |
Southpaw | Stance | Orthodox |
This one is scheduled for twelve rounds but I don’t think the judges will have a say in the verdict for this bout.
I see the first few rounds being more competitive with Santa Cruz utilizing a high fight IQ to keep Davis guessing. Eventually, I think Gervonta Davis will settle into a rhythm and dictate the pace for the remainder of the bout.
I see Davis securing the stoppage inside of ten rounds.
Pick: Gervonta Davis (-700)
Main Card Picks for Davis vs Santa Cruz
- Regis Prograis vs Juan Heraldez: Prograis has 24 pro wins with 20 knockouts but is coming off of his first pro loss last time out. I think Prograis rebounds with style points and hands Heraldez his first pro loss via stoppage inside of seven rounds. Pick: Regis Prograis (-1200)
- Mario Barrios vs Ryan Karl: The WBA super lightweight world title is on the line in this prizefight. I think Barrios does enough to garner the stoppage win inside of six rounds. Pick: Mario Barrios (-2000)
