Emanuel Navarrete and Christopher Diaz will test skills at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida. Navarrete vs Diaz broadcasts on ESPN and ESPN+.

The WBO featherweight world championship is on the line with Navarrete looking to maintain his hold on the gold against hungry title contender Diaz.

Top Rank is promoting Navarrete’s first defense of this piece of championship hardware. Conversely, Diaz looks to shock the world and rain on the championship parade of Navarrete.

Emanuel Navarrete’s First Defense of This Title

The long-time super bantamweight world champion moved up divisions to capture a world championship accolade in a higher weight category.

Navarrete became a two-division world champion in October when Ruben Villa was bested via unanimous decision during their WBO featherweight world title clash.

Despite the prior competitive histories of both showing that Diaz has fought the bigger men, Navarrete actually enjoys a huge reach advantage in this fight.

The defending champion comes in with an eight-inch reach advantage over his upcoming title challenger.

The Combat Resume of Christopher Diaz

Christopher Diaz is a former super featherweight world title challenger and held the WBO NABO super featherweight belt over multiple successful defenses.

He is riding back-to-back unanimous decision victories heading into this title bid. Diaz’s last outing saw him best Jason Sanchez in their June prizefight.

Navarrete has an 84 percent stoppage rate, but it seems like oddsmakers are getting a tad uncertain with how his power transfers between divisions.

Diaz is the larger man and has never been stopped inside the distance as a professional pugilist.

Also considering Navarrete’s last bout went the distance, despite the pair of knockdowns, there is a  level of perceptual parity on where this one falls on the over-under side of going nine and a half rounds.

Diaz will likely work a range-minded game plan and try to ply his trade at a distance. Conversely, Navarrete will look to court a pressure-heavy gameplan and get in more of a close-quarters firefight with the challenger on Saturday night.

Ultimately, I think these 126 pounders will not have their twelve-round showdown encroach towards that final bell.

Odds on this contest going under nine and a half rounds are positioned at -125, and I think there is good value in that prop bet.

I think Emanuel Navarrete will finish this contest and will make the first successful defense of his newly acquired hardware.

Pick: Emanuel Navarrete (-1250)
