This bout has been rescheduled multiple times, with this March 20th date being the fifth time this fight has been moved in lieu of rib injuries, COVID-19, etc.
Who Is Adam Deines?
The rhetoric leading into this one is that Deines is an uninspired WBC mandatory contender for the unbeaten champion Beterbiev.
Adam Deines has back-to-back stoppage wins heading into this bout after suffering the lone loss of his professional career to Fanlong Meng in June 2019.
It’s worth noting though that the records of those two opponents (Josef Lehr and Yevgenii Makhteienko) were 1-0 and 10-12 respectively.

While Deines has captured a variety of belts in his sweet science run so far (international, intercontinental, etc), this is still a defined step up in competition for him.
With Adam Deines starting to vault up to this next tier, this is rarefied air that Beterbiev is more than familiar with.
Artur Beterbiev’s Quest for 16-0
Artur Beterbiev is one of the more attention-grabbing knockout artists nowadays, with 15 wins and 15 stoppages to his credit. He aims to make the fourth defense of his IBF crown and the first defense of his WBC hardware here against Adam Deines.
This contest marks the Russian native’s first time competing as a pro in his home country. The former two-time Olympian Beterbiev has largely competed on the Canadian and American circuits.
Artur Beterbiev unified the IBF and WBC gold in his last contest when he dispatched Oleksandr Gvozdyk via tenth-round TKO in their October 2019 prizefight.

The aforementioned Fanlong Meng was initially targeted to fight Beterbiev. But certain issues with the pandemic and acquiring proper visas put the kibosh on that and resulted in this Adam Deines matchup being booked.
These 175 pounders just simply have resumes that weigh out in an altogether different way.
While Deines is a southpaw striker who can hit unique angles, I admittedly think things look bleak for him against Beterbiev.
Beterbiev vs Deines Tale of the Tape
15-0 | Record | 19-1-1 |
15 | Knockouts | 10 |
5’11.5 | Height | 5’11 |
73″ | Reach | 71.5″ |
Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Radivoje Kalajdzic, Callum Johnson | Significant Wins | Gasan Gasanov, Stefan Haertel, Elio German Rafael |
Orthodox | Stance | Southpaw |
It’s hard to ignore the fact that an undefeated champion with a one hundred percent knockout rate will be taking on a largely inauspicious title contender.
I think there is great value on prop bets centered on this bout not going the distance, Beterbiev winning via KO or TKO, and Beterbiev winning inside of three rounds.
Pick: Artur Beterbiev (-5000)
