Alex Saucedo vs Sonny Fredrickson will sling leather in Tuesday’s Top Rank Boxing show on ESPN. These pugilists will tangle inside The Bubble at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two were booked to fight on April 25th but things had to be rescheduled in lieu of mass event cancellations via the global pandemic. The ten-round, junior welterweight bout was an untelevised bout on that previously mentioned April card. Saucedo vs Fredrickson will now top the marquee on this end of June event as the Summer Series rolls on.

Saucedo vs Fredrickson Odds

Fighter Odds
Alex Saucedo -950
Sonny Fredrickson +575

Odds as of June 23

While Fredrickson only has two career losses, it’s worth noting he has gone 3-2 over his last five fights. He dropped his USBA championship in his last outing to Samuel Teah via majority decision. Fredrickson has a deep amateur resume and was a standout on the US circuit. Deep amateur resumes usually lead to razor-sharp technique, a high fight IQ, and a refined sense of ringcraft/ ring generalship.

Not much is known about Fredrickson’s pandemic training but it seems like Alex Saucedo hasn’t been set back from the global athletic hindrances. Despite the COVID-19 hurdles the present world can create, it seems like Saucedo has been able to train pretty thoroughly. 130 rounds of sparring in camp with three sparring days a week alongside quality boxers.

Alex Saucedo’s WBO Title Campaign

Saucedo collected some significant WBO belts (NABO and International) before falling short in his bid for the WBO world title. The seventh-round TKO loss to Maurice Hooker in November 2018 set him back a bit. He would regain traction a year later though with a  first-round knockout victory over Rod Salka in November 2019. Saucedo is looking to vault from this bout and compete again in the fall. If events keep going on at the rate that they’re presently happening, that’s the plan. As outlined by Saucedo’s manager, Sam Katkovski.

It would seem like Alex Saucedo is looking to add one more to the highlight reel when he steps through the ropes on Tuesday.

Saucedo is expected to take this but he has a lot of question marks around him. The 30 fight vet faltering in his jump to the world title level could reveal some things. Some technical adjustments were to be made but his next few fights will indicate a lot. Whether the prior world title bout was a bump on the road to glory or an indicator that there’s a ceiling imposed on his competitive career.

Saucedo vs Fredrickson Tale of the Tape

Both fighters are 25 and hungry to prove themselves in what is the first fight of 2020 for both men. There’s a bit more parity in this fight, at least relative to some other bouts within Top Rank’s Summer Series. I think that the former will defeat the latter when Saucedo vs Fredrickson goes down. I foresee Alex Saucedo securing the stoppage win inside of six rounds.

Pick: Alex Saucedo (-950)
