New York’s online sports betting industry has been on the cusp of commencing for what feels like an eternity. As the calendar turns to 2022, it can truthfully be said that the start of online sports betting in NY is only weeks away (likely three, and no more than four, barring unforeseen setbacks).
While the landscape of online sports betting in New York is sure to change over the next several years, the list of sports-betting apps that will be available to New Yorkers at the outset has been settled.
New York’s Approved Sports-Betting Apps
New York Online Sportsbooks | Anticipated Launch |
---|---|
FanDuel Sportsbook New York | January 2022 |
DraftKings Sportsbook New York | January 2022 |
BetMGM New York | January 2022 |
Bally Bet New York | January 2022 |
Caesars Sportsbook New York | January 2022 |
PointsBet New York | January 2022 |
WynnBET New York | January 2022 |
BetRivers New York | January 2022 |
Empire Resort | January 2022 |
As shown in the table, the list of approved sports-betting apps is nine deep. It includes many of the household sportsbook names (like BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel) but doesn’t include other major players (like Barstool Sportsbook, Bet365, and Fox Bet)
FanDuel Is Going to Be a New York Giant
In the limited time since online sports betting has been legal in parts of the US, FanDuel Sportsbook has established itself as a major player in nearly every marketplace. With headquarters in New York and New Jersey, FanDuel sportsbook is set to excel in New York.
The FanDuel app can be downloaded from the App Store for Apple users or Google Play for Android Users. It is already available to customers in neighboring Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, along with Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan,, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Wherever FanDuel Goes, DraftKings Is Coming Too
DraftKings and FanDuel will forever be tied as the OGs of the fantasy-sports world. The fact that both made their move to online sports betting at basically the same time only adds to the ties that bind these two.
So it should come as no surprise that, with FanDuel opening up shop in New York’s online market, DraftKings will be at its side.
Caesars Is Coming Hard for Its Slice of New York
If there’s one thing that can be deduced from Caesars recent advertising push, it’s that they have their corporate eye on taking a big bite out of New York.
The sportsbook cast New Yorker JB Smoove as Caesar in its latest advertising campaign, and big-time New York sports fan Halle Berry as Cleopatra.

Of course, with BetMGM bringing on Jamie Foxx as the face of its brand, there is going to be ample silver-screen competition for every New Yorker’s attention.
