North Carolina Sports Betting Handle, Revenue Increases in April

• The North Carolina Lottery Commission released sports betting revenue reports for April
• Sports betting gross gaming revenue increased by nearly $40 million for the month
• North Carolina brought in nearly $19 million in sports betting tax revenue

North Carolina continued its sports betting success during its first full month of operation.

The North Carolina Lottery Commission released sports betting handle and revenue reports for the month of April, the state’s first full month of sports betting operation since launching on Monday, March 11.

The state took in nearly $19 million in sports betting tax revenue for the month.

North Carolina Sees Sports Betting Increase

North Carolina sports betting users bet $648,934,226 in online sports during April through the state’s eight licensed operators, included paid and promo wagers. It was the state’s first full month of operation.

Gross wagering revenue also increased in the month, totaling $105,251,672, up from $66.49 million in March. At the state’s 18% tax rate on gross gaming revenue, North Carolina reported $18,945,300 in tax revenue for the month.

March saw tax revenues of $11,969,318.

North Carolina has had a profitable start to sports betting during its first month-and-a-half of operation. North Carolina’s tax revenue total of $18.9 million in April topped such established state markets as Massachusetts, which totaled just a little over $9.9 million in combined retail and online sports betting tax revenue for the month.

Promo spend in the state plummeted for April, totaling $79.65 million for the month down from a whopping $202.6 million during its inaugural month.

Users won $538.4 million for the month, down from a $590.75 million win in March.

No Breakdowns For Individual Operators

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission’s sports betting report for April did not include breakdowns for the eight live online sports betting operators. The lottery previously noted it will not be providing these in the future.

• PENN Sports Interactive (ESPN BET North Carolina): Quail Hollow Club (PGA Tour course)
• Underdog Sports: McConnell Golf

The Catawba Two Kings Casino was awarded a sports betting license, but has not yet determined an operator partner. There is no timing as to when the casino may launch sports betting in North Carolina.
