The Bayou State is on the cusp of welcoming online sports betting within its borders—and Louisiana sports bettors won’t have to wait too much longer.
Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns told XLMedia regulatory writer Rob Linnehan that online sports betting in the state could be up and running by the start of the new year.
Chairman Johns predicted Louisiana online sports betting could be live by the Jan. 1, 2022.

Though a concrete date has yet to be announced, it appears as though Louisiana online sports betting should be fully functional before Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13, 2022 in Los Angeles. This would mark a huge opportunity for the new market to make a big splash next year.
In-Person Sports Betting in Louisiana Launches Sunday
In addition to the big news surrounding the upcoming arrival of online sports betting, Johns also told Linnehan that he’s issued four licenses for in-person sports betting in Louisiana.
The four casinos that received licenses are: Harrah’s New Orleans, Horshoe Casino Bossier City, L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, and Boomtown Casino Hotel.
Each of these casinos can start accepting wagers at 12:01am on Oct. 31, just in time for the New Orleans Saints Halloween matchup against Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
