- Futures bets placed with existing Canadian sports betting apps relaunching on April 4 may be in doubt
- This could effect grey area Ontario sportsbooks like Bet365, Betway, Sports Interaction, and 888sport
- Legal online Ontario sports betting market set to launch next month
Legal Canadian sports betting apps are coming to Ontario in very short order, but new information shows that a handful of existing Canadian sportsbooks may be forced to cancel futures bets in the province before relaunching on April 4, 2022.
Read on to find out how your futures bets with any grey area Ontario sportsbook may be impacted by this news.
Grey Area Ontario Sportsbooks May Void Futures Bets
TSN’s Aaron Korolnek tweeted some interesting, but potentially disheartening, news for sports bettors in Canada that use sports betting apps that are legal overseas and have been taking Canadian players.
Have had a few people reach out to me regarding my comments on @FirstUp1050 this morning re: the nullifying of futures bets leading up to April 4. Would imagine more clarity is coming this week and next. But my advice is to be prepared. pic.twitter.com/Qo792L1FE4

What this news essentially means is that Canadian sports bettors at grey area sportsbooks such as Bet365, Betway, Sports Interaction, and 888sport could have their futures bets voided ahead of the April 4 relaunch when they become legal Ontario sports betting apps.
If you’ve placed a bet on a game with a sportsbook like Bet365 Canada that is on or after April 4, for example, that futures bet you made could be cancelled entirely once they officially become a regulated Ontario sports betting app. That means bets on things like next year’s Super Bowl or the next Super Bowl MVP could be in question.
This news is likely to cause a stir among Canadian sports bettors that currently have any number of futures bets already placed with grey area sportsbooks in Ontario. We’ll continue to monitor this situation as it develops.
Legal Ontario Sports Betting Apps on the Way
Many Ontario sports betting apps that operate in the Canadian grey area, as noted in our Bet365 review, will become regulated online Canadian sportsbooks come April 4. In addition to the relaunches of those grey area books as legal books, there will also be a new wave of private Canadian sports betting apps joining the blossoming scene.
