The first leg of the Copa Del Rey semifinals will go underway this Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid at 2 PM ET, in one of the best matchups of the week.

Atletico is the current champion of the Copa del Rey; they upset Real Madrid in an one game final last season at the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning the ‘merengues’ will seek for a payback.

‘The Colchoneros’ are also currently on top of the standings in La Liga, three points ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid, which speaks volumes of the great season they have had, so far.

“Atlético is a very solid team. I like how organized they are, and they are very good on the break. They do everything well”, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti explained.

“Simeone doesn’t believe his team isn’t a contender [for the title]. He says it to take the pressure off. No one had them down as one of the favorites at the beginning of the season, and now they are top of the league and in the cup semi-finals and Champions League last 16”, he added.

These two teams have 44 games combined without losing a game; Atletico hasn’t lost in 23 games, and Real in 21; someone has to give.

For Real Madrid, the challenge is double because they won’t have playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo for the next three games in la Liga after getting ejected in the weekend matchup against Athletic Bilbao; although he will be ready to play the Copa Del Rey semifinals.

Real is the favorite in the moneyline listed -130 to win this Wednesday; Atletico is +325 and the draw pays +240.
