- Any value in taking Gen.G?
- Are SKT T1 still the ones to bank on?
- Is there a new clear cut favorite to win MSI 2019?
MSI is one of the two tournaments that will offer the best of the best in the World of League of Legends in the 2019 season.
It takes place after the first split in each competitive region comes to a close, with the winner of each region representing their league.
There has been quite a bit of movement in the odds to win MSI 2019 since opening. While most of the teams are in the same place they were before, the odds have changed drastically for a few squads. Let’s take a look at the updated odds table.
2019 Mid-Season Invitational Odds

Gen.G Falling Off
Heading into the first split of the year, Gen.G was listed at +1800 odds to win MSI. They head into the LCK Spring Split having made a change in the jungle, picking up a world class talent in Peanut.
Despite having made a change bringing in the Korean star, they have struggled in the opening weeks of LCK play. Gen.G opened the year with a 0-3 record, with their losses coming from DAMWON, Sandbox, and Afreeca.
Currently sitting at 2-3, they are far from where they expected to be at this point in the LCK standings.

Heading into the Spring Split they were probably feeling pretty good. They finished fourth in the 2018 LCK Summer Split, had a decent showing at Worlds, and signed a star player in a role that they needed to improve. Gen.G looked like they were poised to make some noise in the 2019 Spring Split.
…it will take a miracle for Gen.G to even make it to the Mid-Season Invitational.
That has not been the case. The LCK this season is very tough, with some of the new teams that are playing way better than anyone could have anticipated.
That’s not even to mention the rest of the teams that fill out the stacked LCK, lead by Griffin and SKT T1, both of which have better odds to win MSI than Gen.G.
Only one representative will come out of the LCK and qualify for MSI, and with the talent level in the LCK this split, it will take a miracle for Gen.G to even make it to the Mid-Season Invitational.
The Best Bet
Originally I had said that SKT T1 is probably the team that you would want to take a look at to win MSI. That has changed.
I had my hopes high for the newly formed all-star squad, but after they faced off against the best team in Korea, and the favorite to win MSI, those hopes were squashed.
Griffin more than likely should be the team that comes out on top of the LCK this split, barring a choke, and be the representative for Korea at MSI.

The only other team I could see challenging Griffin at MSI is China’s Invictus Gaming. Though if the two do end up meeting at MSI, which they probably will, I would give the edge to Griffin.
They are truly playing at another level above their competition. As long as they’re able to make it out of the LCK Spring Split, I suspect that they will also be the ones to hoist the MSI trophy in May.
Though Invictus may prove to be a challenge, it’s just so hard to imagine Griffin losing a series with how they’re playing to start the 2019 season. For my money I would go with the favorites to win, Griffin.
Pick: Griffin (+325)
