- The 39th Golden Raspberry Awards are expected to be held in early 2019
- The annual awards show will honor the worst films of 2018
- Which of the year’s most disappointing flicks will win out for their awfulness?
The 39th annual Golden Raspberry Awards are slated to be held in early 2019 and already moviegoers are betting on which movies will “win” for their sheer awfulness.
Sportsbooks have odds up for the films favored to win the award for Worst Picture of the Year, and in what should come as no surprise to anyone unfortunate enough to see it, Gotti is in the lead.
Golden Raspberry Awards Worst Picture Odds
Which Movie Will Win the Worst Picture Award at the Razzies? | Odds |
---|---|
Gotti | +200 |
The Happytime Murders | +350 |
Fifty Shades Freed | +700 |
Show Dogs | +700 |
Truth or Dare | +800 |
Venom | +1000 |
The Outsider | +1000 |
Sherlock Gnomes | +1400 |
How It Ends | +1600 |
Starring John Travolta, Gotti was a 2018 biographical crime drama about the life of New York City mobster John Gotti and his son. The movie was panned by critics for its abysmal execution and writing, with Jordan Mintzer of The Hollywood Reporter going so far as to call it “ridiculous in spots and just plain dull in others.”
Although moviegoers are expecting Gotti to take home the not-so-prestigious award, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see The Happytime Murders eventually surpass it in the betting odds.

The Happytime Murders was basically Sesame Street on steroids, mixed with raunchy humor and every movie you’ve ever seen with Melissa McCarthy ever. Although an interesting idea on paper, the film was a box office bomb and had no business gracing the silver screen.
Trailing those two stinkers are Fifty Shades Freed and Show Dogs. The latest instalment in the Fifty Shades series was no different than its inane predecessors, while Show Dogs was your typical throwaway kids movie that had very few redeeming qualities (and was actually caught up in controversy for a scene that apparently normalized child grooming).

The remaining films on the list aren’t major improvements, though they are in the same company as past winners of the Worst Picture of the Year award at the Razzies.
Past Golden Raspberry Winners for Worst Picture
Year | Movie |
---|---|
2013 | Movie 43 |
2014 | Saving Christmas |
2015 | Fantastic Four, Fifty Shades of Grey |
2016 | Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party |
2017 | The Emoji Movie |
If you ask anyone who has seen Movie 43 and Saving Christmas, they’ll tell you how terrible they are, but neither film is incredibly well-known due to how poorly they performed in the box office.
Fantastic Four, Fifty Shades of Grey and The Emoji Movie, which all won the award for Worst Picture at the Razzies in recent years, have despicable reputations and rightfully so.
Meanwhile, Fantastic Four, Fifty Shades of Grey and The Emoji Movie, which all won the award for Worst Picture at the Razzies in recent years, have despicable reputations and rightfully so. Each of them were not only awful as advertised but also failed to generate as much money as predicted (by a country mile, too).

Thankfully, that means moviegoers are getting the right idea from somewhere by not giving these companies their hard-earned money and rewarding them for producing such atrocities. Here’s hoping that trend continues in 2019, but then again, bad movies will always be prevalent.
After all, the Golden Raspberry Awards have to get their nominees from somewhere.
