- Washington visits New Orleans on Monday Night Football of Week 5
- Will Jordan Reed or Jamison Crowder have a better day against the Saints defense?
- Will Drew Brees and Michael Thomas continue to put up big numbers?
Week 5’s Monday Night Football matchup features the 2-1 Washington Redskins travelling to New Orleans to face the 3-1 Saints. We dig into the prop cards to find the three best bets for MNF.
Best Week 5 Monday Night Football Props
Prop #1: Jordan Reed To Have More Receiving Yards Than Jamison Crowder
Reed vs Crowder Prop | Odds |
---|---|
Reed More Receiving Yards than Crowder | -133 |
Crowder More Receiving Yards that Reed | -112 |
*All odds taken on 10/07/18
I see good value on backing the Redskins’ top receiver Jordan Reed to have a more productive day than teammate Jamison Crowder.
Reed currently leads the team in yardage with 168 gained on 14 receptions. He is also the second-highest targeted option in the passing game.
Alex Smith and the Skins like to spread their targets around, and Crowder is only the fifth-most targeted receiver with the second-fewest total yards (79). He has seen only four targets each game and has yet to finish with more than 39 yards in a game.
Reed vs Crowder Receiving Yards in 2018
Bye | Week 4 | Bye |
65 | Week 3 | 39 |
55 | Week 2 | 8 |
48 | Week 1 | 32 |
Each receiver should have an opportunity to pick up yards Monday against a New Orleans’ defense ranked 30th in passing YPG with 311. With the checkdown king Smith at QB, TE Reed will always have a chance at seeing high usage.

Prop #2: Drew Brees To Have More Passing Yards Than Alex Smith & Saints To Win

Brees More Passing Yards Than Smith | -179 |
New Orleans Saints Win | -275 |
Parlay | -128 |

It’s a big night in the Big Easy on MNF, where Saints’ QB Drew Brees is looking to break multiple records. Brees has a chance to take the lead in all-time passing yards as well as a chance of reaching 500 touchdown passes.
With Washington and Smith on byes last week, Brees naturally has more total yards (1,295 – 767), however his YPG far exceeds Smiths’ at 323.8 compared to 255.7.
Brees vs Smith 2018 Passing Yards
217 | Week 4 | Bye |
396 | Week 3 | 220 |
243 | Week 2 | 292 |
439 | Week 1 | 255 |
To boost up your odds you can add a Saints win in this prop.
New Orleans are around a touchdown favorite at home and did beat the Skins 34-31 at home in overtime last year. Washington also struggles historically on MNF having lost 13/15.

Pick:Â Drew Brees To Have More Passing Yards Than Alex Smith & Saints To Win (-128)
Prop #3: Michael Thomas At Least 7 Receptions & 1 Receiving TD
Michael Thomas Prop | Odds |
---|---|
7+ Rec & 1+ Rec TD | -102 |
8+ Rec & 1+ Rec TD | -109 |
9+ Rec & 1+ Rec TD | +139 |
10+ Rec & 1+ Rec TD | +175 |
If Brees hopes to reach any of the above mentioned milestones on Monday night, he’ll surely be looking to his most trusted receiver in Michael Thomas.
As far as true receivers go, Thomas is far and away the main threat for New Orleans. Thomas has been targeted 44 times, for 42 receptions, totalling 445 yards and three TDs. His reception totals have been 16, 12, 10, and 4 from Weeks 1-4.

Running back Alvin Kamara actually has the most targets in the passing game. The next most used receiver on the team, Ted Ginn Jr, has only seen half the targets of Thomas at 22, yet does have two TDs of his own. However, Ginn has been ruled out with injury opening up more opportunities for Thomas.
Thomas has been held out of the endzone the past two weeks but is still tied for fourth in receiving TDs in the league. He also has the most receptions of any receiver and fourth-most total yards.
Thomas is tied for fourth in receiving TDs in the league, while also having the most receptions with 42.
