Winner: New England Patriots

Look, we’re not saying the Patriots are contending for a Super Bowl next year. They might not even be able to contend with the Bills in the AFC East, but their Super Bowl odds got a major injection of optimism after the draft.

The Pats moved from +9786 to +8833, in large part to picking up almost everything needed on their grocery list, which consisted of giving franchise pivot Drake Maye everything he needs to succeed.

They believe they’ve landed a potential long-term left tackle in Will Campbell with the fourth pick, while also nabbing center Jared Wilson in Round 4.

New England also beefed up the skill position players, adding stud Ohio State running back in TreVeyon Henderson in Round 2 and Washington State WR Kyle Williams in Round 3.

And they didn’t forget the defense, with potential plug-and-play starters in Edge Bradyn Swinson and DT Joshua Farmer.

Loser: San Francisco 49ers

No team near the top of the Super Bowl odds did worse than ‘Frisco, who dropped from +1657 odds to +1783 after the NFL Draft.

It started with a questionable pull at the 11th pick in Georgia’s Mykel Williams, an Edge expected to replenish a defensive line that’s been decimated by releases and free agency. It’s just that Williams is more of a project than a ready-to-go star at that draft spot.

Yes, the AFC West is loaded, but the Broncos get a third-place schedule this season, something few other playoff teams can say. They also get to face the AFC South, which is by far the weakest division in football.

Taking undersized linebacker Nick Martin in Round 3 was also not considered a prime move, though the Niners did do a better job in the back half of the draft, picking up Oregon back Jordan James in Round 4 and offensive lineman Connor Colby in Round 7.

Winner: Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are among the teams with an A+ grade from the draft, and their SB odds reflect that, going from +6929 to +6883 odds in a weekend’s work.

Defensive lineman Walter Nolen was a win at 16, but getting corner Will Johnson at 47 might be the steal of the draft. He’s got Day 1 skills but was dinged because of a lingering knee injury he claims was years ago.

Throw in sack artist Jordan Burch in Round 3, all-around linebacker Cody Simon in Round 4, and corner Denzel Burke in Round 5, and Arizona’s defense could flip from mediocre to legit in a snap.

Winner: LA Chargers

We’ll wrap with one more winner: the LA Chargers, who now have +2667 odds, down from +2771, with a tidy draft.

It started with stud running back Omarion Hampton, who should be the centerpiece of Jim Harbaugh’s run-heavy approach.

But then giving Justin Herbert some skill help out wide in Tre Harris in Round 2 was big too, and so were wideout KeAndre Lambert-Smith and TE Oronde Gadsden in Round 5.
