  • Steelers emerge as heavy favorites to draft Shedeur Sanders
  • Colorado QB’s draft stock remains volatile with odds all over the map
  • Adam Schefter “guarantees” Giants won’t take Sanders at No. 3

Shedeur Sanders has become the ultimate wild card of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Colorado quarterback, who lit up the Big last season with 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, has seen his projected draft position fluctuate dramatically in recent weeks.

With less than 24 hours until the first round kicks off in Green Bay, the betting market has made a definitive move toward one team: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin’s squad has emerged as the odds-on favorite to land Sanders, but there are still plenty of questions about where the polarizing prospect will ultimately end up.

Steelers Vault to Top of Sanders Odds Board

The Steelers, who hold the No. 21 overall pick, have seen their odds to draft Sanders plummet over the last few days. Pittsburgh is now listed at -170 to select the QB in the NFL Draft odds, making them the clear betting favorites.

The Steelers have been lurking as a potential Sanders suitor for weeks, but the recent odds shift suggests they’re locked in on the former Jackson State star. Pittsburgh has a glaring need at QB with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson atop the depth chart.

However, not everyone is convinced the Steelers will pull the trigger if Sanders is on the board at No. 21. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Pittsburgh could opt to wait until the 2026 draft, which is expected to have a stronger QB class.

The Steelers also have needs on the defensive line and at running back. In his final mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates has Pittsburgh passing on Sanders in favor of UNC RB Omarion Hampton.

Giants, Saints Losing Steam in Sanders Sweepstakes

Two teams that were previously considered prime landing spots for Sanders appear to be heading in a different direction. Let’s start with the New York Giants, who own the No. 3 overall pick.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter “guaranteed” on Thursday that Big Blue will not draft Sanders at No. 3. He reports that the Giants are content with their veteran QB room of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and will only consider a signal-caller if the value is right.

Giants GM Joe Schoen has also hinted that he views Sanders as more of a mid-first-round talent than a top-3 lock. If New York passes at No. 3, it’s unlikely they’ll trade back into Round 1 for the Colorado product.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints have seemingly cooled on Sanders after being the betting favorites to draft him for much of the offseason. The Saints, who pick at No. 9, desperately need a long-term answer at QB, but The Times-Picayune reports that the team did not bring Sanders in for a pre-draft visit.

How Far Could Sanders Fall?

The volatility in Sanders’ draft stock is reflected in his overall position prop. The over/under for his draft slot is set at 14.5, with heavy juice (-450) on the over at DraftKings.

That suggests there’s a strong likelihood Sanders will be selected outside the top 14 picks. If the Saints pass at No. 9 and the Steelers pivot to another position, a draft day slide could be in the cards.

The Cleveland Browns (+500 to draft Sanders) loom as a potential safety net at the end of Round 1. In his mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates proposed a Browns trade-up to No. 29 for Sanders after taking Travis Hunter with the No. 2 pick.

But if Cleveland stands pat at No. 33 and Sanders slips out of the first round, his most likely landing spot becomes much tougher to peg. Crazier things have happened – just ask Aaron Rodgers circa 2005.

Shedeur’s Wild Ride Nears Its End

No matter where he lands, Sanders figures to be one of the biggest stories of draft weekend. The son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has been a household name since his high school days, and his college production speaks for itself.

But fair or not, Sanders’ flashy persona and celebrity status have turned some NFL decision-makers off. His football future now hangs in the balance, with a potential green room wait a very real possibility.

Will the Steelers bite at No. 21? Could the Browns pounce if he falls into their lap? Or will a team completely off the radar roll the dice on Shedeur’s sky-high potential?

We’ll find out soon enough. The 2025 NFL Draft begins at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night, and Sanders will undoubtedly be the prospect everyone is talking about when the first round wraps up.
