The reigning-NBA Champion Boston Celtics () picked up where they left off last postseason on Sunday, cruising past the Orlando Magic in the first in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Boston overcame a sluggish first, in which they were outscored 49-48, to blow out the Magic 103-86, covering as 13.5-point favorites. The opening Magic vs Celtics Game 2 odds favor the champs by 12.

Boston got a clutch 30-point performance from two-guard Derrick White (16.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 4.8 APG) in the Game 1 victory, plus 19 off the bench from Peyton Pritchard (14.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 3.5 APG), which more than made up for a relatively quiet 17-point performance on 8-of-22 shooting from leading scorer Jayson Tatum (26.8 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 6.0 APG). Paolo Banchero (25.9 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 4.8 APG) was all-world for the Magic in the loss, dropping 36 points on 14-of-27 shooting with 11 rebounds, and four assists. Banchero and Franz Wagner (24.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 4.7 APG) combined for 59 of Orlando’s 86 points in the loss (68.6%). The rest of the team shot just 10-of-30 from the field.
