  • We’ve got a good one for Sunday Night Baseball on Sunday, April 20, 2025
  • The San Diego Padres are in Houston, taking on the Astros, so we’ll need some action
  • See my favorite Padres vs Astros player prop and team prop picks and predictions tonight

It’s Easter Sunday which means we’re going to be hanging out with family all day long. For some of us, that’s a good thing. For others, not so much. No matter your situation, one thing that is sure to help get you through the day is knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel. That light is the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros game on Sunday Night Baseball. It’s perfect. Easter is generally a “day” thing so by the time this thing comes on, we should be all set with family time. On top of that, it offers a chance to stuff a little cash in our pockets before we call it a day. I can’t think of a better thing to do than throw down on a couple of player props for this thing. Lucky for us, I found two. Feels right.

Padres vs Astros Player Prop #1 – Jeremy Pena Over 1.5 Hits + Runs +RBI

We’ve got boosts today and damn it, we need to use them. The first one is a little tricky since it’s a “live” boost but at the end of the day, it’s easy. All we have to do is wait for this game to start, and then place our wager. Since the Astros are at home, they will bat second so we’ll have plenty of time if we just take a Houston batter.

I’m thinking Jeremy Pena solely on what he’s doing to four-seam fastballs.

PitchJeremy Pena Hard Hit% vs Pitch from RHP (Current Season)Dylan Cease EV on pitch to RHB
Four-seam Fastball73%92 MPH

As much as I want to take Pena to hit a dinger, I think he’s best played in the hits + runs +RBI market. Obviously it’s a little easier to hit those, hence the price. Still, since we have a boost, we can make this thing plus-money which will make us feel alive. It’s the perfect crime.

Pena is going to see Dylan Cease tonight which used to be a bad thing but he hasn’t been great this season. In fact, he’s been the opposite of good. Righties are hitting .361 off of him which is terrible. Given the fact that Pena hits behind Yordan Alvarez in the order, we could easily get a couple at bats with guys on base. Feels easy.

Padres vs Astros Team Prop #2 – Yordan Alvarez to Hit a Home Run

I know we just bet Jeremy Pena because we think Yordan Alvarez could be on base but stay with me here. What if Yordan just hits one over the fence? I mean, that could easily happen. We’ve seen him do it before.

It’s not like he’s not going to see a pitch mix that agrees with his stroke. The guy smokes four-seamers and sliders which is exactly what Dylan Cease throws.

PitchY. Alvarez Hard Hit% vs RHP (Current Season)D. Cease Hard Hit % to LHB
Slider 100%61%
Four-seam Fastball 50%75%

Before we get too carried away, Alvarez has seen Cease 21 times and has yet to put one in the seats against him. That would bother me if I was a pitcher vs batter guy but I’m not. We have no idea of the circumstances surrounding those at bats. What if they were years ago? What if Cease is in full decline mode now? Those are good questions.

What we do know is Cease has given up two home runs in just 52 lefty plate appearances this season. That’s not terrible, but it’s not good either. Alvarez just hit two balls 102+ mph yesterday so he’s seeing everything very well. Plus, with the boost this thing is +565. Feels right.

  • The Bet: Yordan Alvarez HR (+565) – FanDuel (With Boost)
