  • We’re looking at a light, 10-game MLB slate for Thursday, April 17
  • Even with the smaller slates, we can still make magic in the home run market
  • See below for my two-leg, +2560 MLB home run parlay today

Betting home runs is my favorite thing to do when it comes to sports betting. Fortunes changing on the swing of a bat is what I live for. The thing is, it’s tough on the brain. We can go through droughts where we can’t seem to win anything, only to be hit with periods where we can’t stop winning. My advice to anyone reading these articles every day is to bet each player straight for the same amount you play the parlay. That way, we stuff cash in our pockets on every outcome except going 0-2. Sure, there will be plenty of those days, but the 1-1 & 2-0 days will make up for it all in the end. We need to have a sustainable way to bet dingers and this is the way. Feels right.

Thursday MLB Home Run Parlay Leg #1 – Spencer Torkelson to Hit a Home Run

I don’t know what happened to Spencer Torkelson but something happened. Last season, he couldn’t seem to hit his way out of a paper bag, only to turn around this season and look like Superman. Whatever happened, I’m glad. I like Spencer and he is definitely working his way into the Circle of Trust.

What’s even better is that he should continue his quest tonight.

Barrel Rate vs Pitch (Current Season)Michael Lorenzen EV on pitch to RHB
15% – Sinker96 MPH
20% – Four-seam Fastball100 MPH

Going through Torkelson’s EV logs, it’s pretty clear that he likes the sinker. His biggest issue with the pitch is that he doesn’t always get it in the air but whatever. The last two times his bat has hit a sinker, the ball has traveled at least 395 feet in the air. We should be fine there.

Dingers are all about matchups, and Spencer has a good one tonight in Michael Lorenzen. Lorenzen has always had a righty problem and that has not gone away over the offseason. His sinker is getting absolutely destroyed (see table above). On top of that, his four-seamer is getting rocked too. My guess is, Torkelson puts a ball into space in his first at bat tonight. Feels right.

Thursday MLB Home Run Parlay Leg #2 – Corey Seager to Hit a Home Run

The dinger game is all about price so I try my hardest to find guys in the +350 range or higher. That was my goal this morning, but I was willing to make an exception for Corey Seager who was priced at +300 when I found him. As with any good thing, it didn’t last as his price was lowered to +280 before I could bet him.

Still, with a guy raking like Corey, in a matchup like this, we just have to bet him.

Hard Hit % vs Pitch (Current Season)Jack Kochanowicz EV on pitch to LHB
Sinker – 100%95 MPH
Four-seam Fastball – 63%96 MPH

Corey Seager has been in the Circle of Trust for quite some time, and he’s not going anywhere. The man hits nukes literally all the time, and he’s back at it this season. Seager hasn’t hit one over the fence since April 9th, but don’t let that fool you. His exit velocity logs are bright red, which means a dinger is coming any at bat.

He’ll see a guy in Jack Kochanowicz tonight who is the perfect target for him. Kochanowicz hasn’t been bad, but he’s allowing very hard contact to basically every lefty he sees. He’s already given up three home runs to left-handers this season, and after tonight, that number will be at least four. Probably more. Feels right.
