Two Atlantic Division rivals trending in opposite directions face off Tuesday night, with one squad battling for the top seed and home ice advantage throughout the 2025 NHL Playoffs, while the other simply looks to get healthy before the postseason begins.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (47-25-4, 98 PTS) sit atop the Atlantic Division and aim for a fifth consecutive win as they visit the Florida Panthers (44-29-4, 92 PTS), who have dropped five straight contests.

The Leafs are intriguing +140 road underdogs in the NHL odds against the Panthers. Puck drop at Amerant Bank Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with ESPN carrying the broadcast.

On paper, this shapes up as a premier matchup between two of the NHL’s top teams. However, injuries have decimated the Panthers lineup, with top forwards Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett headlining a long list of Florida regulars expected to miss this game.

The Maple Leafs are absolutely rolling right now. They’ve won eight of their last ten games and look like a team hitting their stride at the perfect time.

Anthony Stolarz has been a brick wall in net during Toronto’s four-game win streak, putting up a ridiculous .944 save percentage while only allowing eight goals total. While Stolarz gets a rest tonight, Tuesday’s starter Joseph Wall owns a stellar .938 save percentage in two career starts vs Florida.

The Leafs have also been jumping on teams early, grabbing the first goal in 11 of their last 17 games. When you start fast in this league, good things usually happen.

Meanwhile, the Panthers’ offense has completely dried up during their five-game losing streak. They’ve only managed to find the net seven times in those games, and they’ve been held to two goals or fewer in 10 of their last 13.

With Tkachuk, Bennett, Sam Reinhart and others watching from the press box, Florida just doesn’t have the firepower to keep pace with Toronto’s high-powered attack.

Special teams could be a game-breaker here. The Leafs boast the NHL’s fifth-best power play, while Florida has given up four power-play goals during their recent slide. If the Panthers start parading to the box, Toronto will make them pay.

At +140 odds, the Maple Leafs moneyline looks like a great value bet in tonight’s matchup. Given how these teams are trending, the motivation levels, and the massive talent gap with Florida’s injuries, I’m backing the Buds to pull off the upset on the road.

The Maple Leafs are +140 underdogs on the moneyline, while the Panthers are -165 favorites. Toronto’s implied win probability tonight is 41.7%, while Florida’s implied chance of winning is 62.3%.

The total is set at 5.5 goals, with -110 juice on both sides. Toronto is getting 1.5 goals on the puck line at -195 odds, while Florida is -1.5 at +162.

Pivoting to the props market, my best bet is on John Tavares to score an anytime goal at +150 odds. The Leafs’ captain has been on a heater, lighting the lamp 14 times in his last 17 contests. Tavares has also tallied in consecutive games against the Panthers.

I’m also playing Auston Matthews to record Over 3.5 shots on goal at -125. The perennial Rocket Richard contender has registered 4+ shots in four of his last five games overall. Against a depleted Florida defense, expect Matthews to pepper the net early and often.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers Props:

  • John Tavares Anytime Goal (+150)
  • Auston Matthews Over 3.5 Shots (-125)
