It’s an all-Metropolitan Division battle Saturday afternoon, when the New York Rangers (36-32-7) visit the New Jersey Devils (40-29-7).
Action gets underway from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ at 12:30pm ET, with ABC/ESPN+ providing broadcast coverage.
The Rangers start the day two points back of the Montreal Canadiens for the second and final Wild Card berth in the Eastern Conference.
The Devils would love nothing more than the deep-six a division rival, one that doesn’t have a chance of catching them for a Top-3 spot in the Metropolitan, anyways. As +100 moneyline underdogs in this one, can New York find a way to upend Jersey and pull into a points tie with the Habs with six games to go?
Here is our Rangers vs Devils prediction for this Saturday matchup.
Rangers vs Devils Prediction
The Devils enter this one have won three of their last four, most recently taking both ends of a home-and-home set with the Minnesota Wild.
New Jersey sits nine points up on these same Rangers but with just six games to play, barring a major collapse the Devils can just focus on getting healthy.
Their main concern: getting defenseman Jack Hughes (out since March 2) and Dougie Hamilton (since March 4) back and ready for a postseason run. Without them, the Devils have gone just 7-6-1 in 14 games.
Not a surprise, then, that Jersey’s defense has suffered while missing its defensive anchors, dropping to 20th in goals against over that span, allowing a healthy 3.20 goals per game.
It’s a little more desperate for their division rivals, as the Rangers appear to have climbed out of a recent funk that had them drop five of six by picking up back-to-back wins to reappear in that Wild Card picture.
Offense has been strong lately, as the Blueshirts have popped in 11 goals in wins over the Sharks, and most recently a 5-4 OT win over the Wild.
It’s not a pleasant trip down the home stretch for the Rangers, who will have to have earned their playoff berth. On top of Jersey, they still have two home games against the Lightning, with stops to Carolina and Florida in their final seven.
They’re trying to win three straight for the first time since Nov 14-19, as part of a start that had them at 12-4-1 to kick off the campaign, which feels like a long time ago.
New York finally broke through in this regular season series with a 3-2 OT win in January, after getting bombed 10-1 in losing the first two games.
Save for that Devils burst, New York has won five of the last seven matchups. As the more desperate team, look for them to continue the trend Saturday.

Rangers vs Devils Player Prop Pick
Artemi Panarin – anytime goal (+165 at Bet365)
It helps that your best players are going when you need results, and Artemi Panarin has been dealing for the Rangers the last month.
He’s got three goals in the last two games, helping New York to victory, and he’s been pretty prolific lighting the lamp, potting 11 goals in his last 16 games, with 23 total points.
He’ll be up against a Devils team he’s yet to record a single point against this year in three games, but this is a mini slump he can kick: he picked up four goals and nine points in the seven head-to-head games before that.
New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils Odds
The Devils’ -120 moneyline odds means it’s going to take a $120 wager to make profit of $100 if you’re taking Jersey to win straight up. Betting on the underdog is more profitable, but only if you think New York can dump its division rivals, as a you’d land a $100 profit on a $100 bet. The Devils have won two of three this season vs New York, but the Rangers are 6-4 straight up over the last 10.
Odds as of April 4 at Bet365 Sportsbook. Browse the available NHL betting apps for Saturday’s games.
If you’re playing the puck line, the Rangers are listed at +1.5 (-250). That’s not a lot of juice if you’re taking the visitors to win outright or lose within a goal: you’d have to bet $250 for the right to win $100. It’s a riskier bet to pick Jersey to win by two goals — which they have in their last four wins against New York — but offers a substantially better return would net you a profit of $205 for a $100 bet.
The total (over/under) for this game is set at 5.5 goals, paying at -110 on both sides. These teams have gone Under the total in five of the last six meetings.
