  • The LA Lakers are 1.5-point home favorites over the Golden State Warriors tonight
  • The Lakers are 3-0 versus the Warriors this season

A potential 1st Round playoff matchup is on deck tonight as the Golden State Warriors (44-31, 21-17 away) face the LA Lakers (46-29, 29-9 home). These two teams sit fifth and fourth respectively in the West, with LA ahead by two games. Online sportsbooks expect Lebron and Co. to widen that gap per the NBA odds, but I disagree. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:10 pm PT/10:10 pm ET at the crypto.com arena, in Los Angeles, CA, with TNT providing the broadcast coverage.

Golden State Warriors vs LA Lakers Picks

  • Golden State Warriors Moneyline (+102) at Caesars

One of the reasons bettors are likely down on this total, is the strength of the Warriors defense. Golden State is up to seventh in defensive rating, after sitting 25th at the start of February. Draymond Green is the favorite in the NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds, and while he’s been playing great in his own end, the team didn’t start turning things around until Jimmy Butler arrived.

Since Jimmy Buckets was acquired, the Dubs are 2nd in defensive rating. They’re 19-5 overall, and are fresh off a convincing win versus Memphis. The defense did its job forcing 16 turnovers, while yielding only eight offensive rebounds. Steph Curry and the offense though was the bigger story, as he turned back the clock with an epic 52 point performance.

Curry splashed 12 threes, matching a season-high. He was 16-of-31 overall, putting up 32 points in the opening half alone. Curry was far from the only offensive star however, as Butler poured in 27 points and Draymond Green posted a 13 point triple-double.

Golden State’s offense is in position to succeed tonight, against a fading Lakers defense. LA ranks 18th in defensive rating over the last 10 games, surrendering 118+ points in six of their past seven.

Fortunately for Lakers fans, their Big 3 of LeBron, Luka and Austin Reaves have been unstoppable. The trio combined for 85 points two games ago, and went for 48 points, 22 rebounds and 16 assists last time out.

Doncic is averaging 30 points per game over the last month, and has torched the Warriors this season. In two games versus the Dubs, he’s averaging 38 points, 9.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists. It’s important to note those contests were against a Golden State team without Butler. The Warriors are vastly improved defensively, and have one of the highest offensive ceilings in the league when Curry is on.

I mistakenly wrote prior to Golden State’s last game that Curry didn’t look right since returning from injury. Clearly, I was dead wrong. He’s just as dangerous as ever, and with Butler and Green behind him, I’m confident the Warriors can now slow down this LA offense. In a potential playoff clash that everyone in the basketball world wants to see, give Golden State on the moneyline.

Switching over to the player props market, where I’m betting Green to dominate the glass. He has an opportunity to cement his case as the DPOY tonight, and I expect him to chase down every loose ball and off target shot in his own end.

Green is averaging 7.5 rebounds versus the Lakers this season, and LA ranks in the bottom-seven of the NBA over the last 10 games in rebounding percentage.
