The chalk held in the West Region and now the #1 Florida Gators (32-4, 26-10 ATS) will beet the #4 Maryland Terrapins (27-8, 18-16-1 ATS) in the Sweet 16 at the Chase Center in San Francisco at 4:39 pm PT/7:39 pm ET on Thursday night. Maryland advanced to the Sweet 16 with a sweat-free 81-49 rout of #13 Grand Canyon in the first round, led by a 12-point, 15-rebound, three-assist double-double from standout freshman Derik Queen (16.2 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.9 APG). The second round was a much different story; Maryland and Colorado State battled it out in the game of the tournament to date, with the Terms emerging victorious 72-71 on a buzzer-beater from Queen.
Florida’s path to the Sweet 16 paralleled Maryland’s. The Gators cruised through #16 Norfolk State (95-69) but met a ton of resistance against #8 UConn in the round of 32. The two-time defending-champion Huskies led by as many as six in the second half and still led by three with four minutes to play.
But UF would go on a late 6-0 run to take the lead for good and eventually emerge with a narrow 77-75 win as 8.5-point favorites. Senior guard and leading scorer Walter Clayton Jr (17.9 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 4.2 APG) led the Gators in scoring both games, dropping 23 points against both Norfolk State and UConn.
Florida enters the Sweet 16 as the second-favorite in the March Madness championship odds at +375. Maryland is ninth at +3300.

The public is also hammering the over in Maryland/Florida, putting 81% of O/U tickets and 82% of O/U handle on over 157.0 roughly three hours from tip-off.
