Auburn didn’t face much resistance during the opening week, dispatching of Alabama State by 30, and handling the Creighton Bluejays by 12.

They’ve done this without Johni Broome, a candidate in the 2025 Wooden Award odds, putting up just 22 points across the two games, though he has picked up double-digit rebounds in each. His production is due for a burst – he’s just too talented to be kept down.

Michigan came close to a Day 1 upset candidate, but they did hang on to dump UC San Diego 68-65 in their opener. They cruised in Round 2, dumping Texas A&M 91-79, powered by Roddy Gayle’s 21 second-half points, en route to a team-high 26 and four rebounds.

Big man Vladislav Goldin, who will likely have to deal a lot with Broome on Friday, had 23 points and 12 boards against the Aggies.

Michigan vs Auburn Picks

The Tigers have their sea legs again after a rough end of year stretch, where they dropped three of their final four, including to Tennessee in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

While that would be concerning to most teams, Auburn’s losses came to all ranked teams, including #8 Alabama and #8 Tennessee.

They’ve looked a lot like the wrecking ball that was a top-ranked team for long stretches this season, and the one that finished Top 4 in both scoring (83.8 points) and scoring defense (69.4) in the ultra-competitive SEC.

The challenge Friday will be to execute against a Michigan side that’s ripped off five wins in a row, keeping three of those teams under 68 points.

The Tigers are 27th in the nation in field goal shooting at 48.1%, but will be challenged by the Wolverines, who hold teams to 40.1% (39th). Auburn is also a Top 50 school shooting the 3-ball at 36.6%, but Michigan limits opponents to a 30.9% clip.

KenPom has Michigan as the fourth-lowest rated team still standing in March Madness, as they possess the second-lowest offesnive efficiency in the field, ahead of only the upstart Arkansas Razorbacks. Defensively, they’re right in the mix, just a spot behind these same Auburn Tigers.

Board work might be the deciding factor Friday. The Wolverines were fourth in the Big Ten in overall rebounding and third on the offensive side, where Auburn was sixth on both in the SEC.

The Wolverines have been a terrific bet of late, going 5-0-0 against the spread in its las five. While Auburn has gone 7-3 over its last 10, they are just 3-7-0 ATS, including just 1-5-0 ATS in their last six.

While I am backing the Tigers to advance, Michigan won’t make this one easy.

  • Michigan vs Auburn pick: Michigan +8.5 (-105)

Michigan vs Auburn Public Betting Splits

Can Vlad Goldin match Johni Broome offensively? The Michigan big man has a scoring line of 17.5 Friday, just a point behind Broome. He’s topped his total in eight of the last 12 outings, cracking 20+ points eight times.

Broome has both the highest scoring and rebounding props for Friday. He’s grabbed 11+ rebounds in three of his last four, but his scoring touch has been off in the tournament. Prior to March Madness, he’d scored 19 or more points in six of nine games.

One player to watch is Auburn’s Tahaad Pettiford. He led the team in scoring against Creighton with 23 points, and he’s gone over his total twice in two tourney games.
