MLB Win Total Bet #1: Athletics Over 71.5 Wins

The Oakland/Sacramento/whatever you want to call them Athletics have one of the lowest win totals in the MLB with 71.5 wins. That is way too low for this team. The Athletics went above and beyond their win total of 56.5 wins last season by winning 69 games. To hit their win total over again in 2025, they just need to win three more games than they did last season, and I believe they have the team to do that and more.

Their lineup is full of young stars, such as Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler, who both just signed extensions before this season. The Athletics will be playing in a minor league stadium this season which will only help this offense rake even more. They were eighth in the MLB in home runs hit last year and will look to duplicate that.

Pitching was their biggest problem last year, but they brought in Luis Severino and Jeffrey Springs to help their staff. Severino had a 3.91 ERA in 2024, which will be much-welcomed to the Athletics. Springs will be solid too as long as he can stay healthy. He had a 3.27 ERA in seven starts last year. They also have a great young closer in Mason Miller and brought in Jose LeClerc to be the setup man for him.

I also believe that the AL West is down this year. The Astros lost some key pieces, the Rangers should be better this year but have to battle through injuries, and then there are the Mariners and Angels. The Athletics have a great chance of winning 72 games in 2025 and could even be in the wild card conversation this fall.

MLB Win Total Bet #2: Reds Over 78.5 Wins

I am heading to the NL Central for my second win total pick for 2025. The Reds have won at least 77 games in three of their last four seasons. Led by young stars Elly de la Cruz and Hunter Greene, this could be the year the Reds put it all together.

Their lineup should have no issues playing at Great American Ball Park. They brought in Gavin Lux, but I am most excited about the return of Matt McLain. McLain missed all of 2024, but had a great rookie campaign in 2023 where he batted .290 and hit 16 home runs.

Cincinnati’s pitching staff is where things may get dicey. Hunter Greene ended 2024 on a strong note with a 1.89 ERA in August and a 1.29 ERA in September. To help him out, the Reds brought in Brady Singer. The bullpen also has a lot of potential with Emilio Pagan, Taylor Rogers, and Graham Ashcraft projected to move to the bullpen this year. Cincinnati hired Terry Francona to be their manager, and I trust him to get the most out of his guys. If Nick Lodolo and the rest of the Reds’ back-end starters can step up, this team will clear 79 wins in 2025.

MLB Win Total Bet #3: Red Sox Over 86.5 Wins

After winning 81 games in 2024, we need the Red Sox to take the next step to reach 87 wins this season. Boston had a big offseason, bringing in Alex Bregman, Garrett Crochet, and Walker Buehler. They are hoping to get a full season from Trevor Story, and they get Lucas Giolito back from injury. Top prospect Kristian Campbell also cracked the Opening Day roster, so there is a lot to be excited about in 2025 for the Red Sox.

As crazy as it sounds with the Yankees, Orioles, Blue Jays, and Rays in their division, the AL East seems down to me this year. Yes, the Yankees and Orioles are great, but an Orioles letdown in terms of their win total would not surprise me. Then the Blue Jays and Rays have completely fallen off, especially with the Vlad Guerrero Jr. trade rumors going on with Toronto. Division teams do not play each other as much as they used to, but it is still worth noting the downward turn this division has taken.

The Red Sox have been the down team in the AL East over the past few years, but they are ready to put those years behind them and get back to the postseason. They have the roster to do that. Their bullpen has some question marks, but with Aroldis Chapman has entered the fold. Chapman may not be the pitcher he was earlier in his career, but he has looked good in Spring Training this season.

Boston appears to be alive in the AL East race heading into 2025, and if they play up to their potential, they should have no problem winning 87 games this season.
