Two teams that know drama and struggles attempt to get closer to the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs as the possibility of missing the postseason looms for both.
The New York Rangers (33-31-6) host the Vancouver Canucks (32-25-12) at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. Online sportsbooks lean on the hometown Rangers in the NHL odds, targeting them as reasonable favorites. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00pm ET, with NHL Network providing the broadcast coverage.

Yes, this matchup knows tons of drama. For all the rhetoric (real and unreal), J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson face off against each other Saturday afternoon at MSG. This will be the first time the two NHL players have seen each other since the trade that sent Miller to New York. Miller started off well but has lagged lately while Pettersson finally looks like himself after a season-long slump.
Vancouver currently sits fourth in the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Calgary Flames and a gargantuan 12 back of division-leading Vegas. Vancouver is one point behind St. Louis in the Wild Card chase, and again has Calgary nipping at their heels. The front office had to hope and pray that Pettersson would regain his old form with the departure of Miller. Finally, that has worked but other problems keep surfacing.
This year has not gone expected for either team and both still face uncertain futures with a dozen games to go in the regular season. However, the biggest problem in Vancouver may just be the Thatcher Demko injury situation.
The Canucks have not had their starting goalie in over 1 1/2 months and there was some initially Thursday when it looked like he might backup Kevin Lankinen. However, uncertainty ruled into early Saturday morning as his status was far from settled then. New York has problems of their own with Igor Shesterkin struggling to keep a leaky Rangers defense and team afloat.
The Rangers are 20th in goals against and the Canucks are 19th. The Rangers have been up and down all year along with the Canucks just that Vancouver is somewhat up right now with New York 3-5-2 over their last 10 contests.
New York and Vancouver are on different sides of the playoff bubble hoping the bubble does not burst. Here are some odds.
Vancouver Canucks vs New York Rangers Odds
The Canucks vs Rangers odds come in with a total of 5.5 goals, with EVEN odds toward the over. New York comes in as a -140 moneyline favorite, and are now +180 to cover the puck line of 1.5 goals. These two teams are evenly matched as Vancouver has 76 points on the season compared to New York’s 72.

Canucks vs Rangers Starting Goalies
Vancouver travels across the country to face New York early on Saturday afternoon. This is a 10am PT start time (1pm ET).
Now, the spotlight shines on the starting goaltenders, where I’m tipping toward Igor Shesterkin as a solid bet. He has endured a rough season but this could be the type of game where New York excels. If the Russian goaltender and his team do not wake up soon, they will have plenty of time to sleep come late April.
While we do not like betting the Rangers for a shutout (+600 via DraftKings), Shesterkin is likely to get a regulation win with the season on the line. Lastly, expect the Rangers to jump out to an early lead in aid of their goaltender.
Canucks vs Rangers prop: Rangers -0.5 Goals After 10 Minutes (+250)
