Utah State Look to Make Splash

Utah State have won 14 of their last 20 games to power their way into the NCAA tournament.

According to KenPom, the Aggies rank 17th in offensive efficiency, boasting a top-22 effective field goal percentage. On top of that, the Aggies force a ton of turnovers with a top-30 steal percentage (12.5%) in the nation. Additionally, Jerrod Calhoun’s squad hoovers extra offensive possessions, with a 34.6% offensive rebounding percentage.

Crucially, the Aggies are excellent at finding good looks inside the three-point line, sitting 13th in the nation in two-point percentage. Utah State plays an efficient brand of basketball, while taking over 80% of shots at the rim or from three-point range. Senior guard Ian Martinez leads the Aggies with 16.8 points per game. Martinez will be Utah State’s main scoring threat, but watch out for sophomore Mason Falslev who scores nearly 15 points a night while crashing the glass with 6.2 rebounds and scooping up 2.3 steals a night. Falslev will be a massive part of any Utah State upset bid.

UCLA Bruins Aim to Make Some March Madness Noise

UCLA heads into March Madness after struggling with a grueling travel stretch in Big Ten play. The Bruins lost four of their last eight games, with a concerning 64-61 home loss to the 91st ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers in February highlighting their low point.

On the bright side, the Bruins boast a balanced basketball team – which generally bodes well in March Madness play. UCLA ranks 35th in KenPom’s offensive efficiency and are a strong 17th on the defensive end. If the Bruins can overcome Utah State they have a shot to make some noise in the Big Dance.

Junior guard Tyler Bilodeau leads the Bruins with 13.6 points per game, but UCLA boasts three players who score in double figures and no starter plays more than 29 minutes per game. UCLA’s athleticism, length, depth and experience may prove to be too much for the Aggies.

Utah State vs UCLA Betting Prediction

Ultimately, the Aggies will be a live underdog in this first round Utah State vs UCLA contest. However, the real value lies in the total. Each of these teams are excellent offensively, and Utah State’s efficient three-point volume points the over being the play.

Additionally, the March Madness betting trends point to this being an explosive offensive game. After all, he total has gone over in seven of Utah State’s last 10 games, and four of UCLA’s last five contests.

Pick: Utah State vs UCLA – OVER 143.5 (-115) at DraftKings
