The Los Angeles Lakers/Denver Nuggets game is a very important piece of our Friday night puzzle. This game will act as a bridge for us gamblers since it starts at 9:30 pm et. It is going to get us from the early slate to the late slate. By the time it tips off, we should have an idea as to how we’re doing on the night and what adjustments need to be made. For that reason, it’s important that we pull some bangers out of this thing. That way even if we get crushed by the early slate, we’ll know that it’s okay. Help is on the way. Lucky for us, when I starting digging into this thing, two bangers jumped out at me. We’re going to be fine.

Lakers vs Nuggets Prop Pick#1: Joker Can Score

When we think about Nikola Jokic, we thing triple-double machine. At least that’s what I think. It seems like every highlight posted on social media involves him making some wild pass or grabbing a rebound over three dudes.

But we can’t forget that this guy can score the rock at will. Look at his point totals over his last eight games.

Here’s the thing, it’s easy to forget about a guy’s scoring ability when he’s dropping triple-doubles every single night. That’s just a fact. But Nikola Jokic has dropped a 30-burger in three of his last four games. What’s even better is, he has taken 20+ shots in all of those games.

The issue with tonight is the blowout risk. Just last night, the Lakers played on TNT without LeBron James. They got rolled and Luka Doncic played 35 minutes. It’s still unclear if he can play back-to-backs but if he can’t, that could present a big problem for the Lakers. Even if LeBron somehow plays, which is a possibility since JJ Redick called him “day to day”, the Lakers could still get waxed which means Nikola Jokic would sit the entire fourth quarter.

What I like to do in a spot like this is target the first quarter points props. Blowouts don’t matter in the first quarter. Lucky for us, Jokic plays almost the entire first quarter and he takes a ton of shots. He ended up with 15 in the first quarter of his last game and he didn’t even score in the first five minutes. We only need 10 points here people. Feels easy.

  • The Bet: Nikola Jokic 10+ Points *1st Quarter (+140) – DraftKings

Lakers vs Nuggets Pick #2: Luka Is On Fire

If you watched the Los Angeles Lakers last night, then you already know. Luka made it rain. The man wasn’t afraid to take a shot from anywhere on the floor and it was obvious.

By the time the whole thing was over, Luka became the youngest Laker to drop 45 points & grab 10 rebounds in a game since 1962. It’s been awhile.

The only thing holding us back on this thing is the fact that Luka might not play. Again, this is a back-to-back situation and the Lakers are being very coy as to whether Luka can play in these games. The thing is, if he doesn’t, then any bets on him would void so it’s safe to make a move on him if we like something.

Just like our Jokic move, the first quarter is a great attack surface for Luka. For starters, he plays about 10 minutes in the opening quarter. On top of that, he’s got the green light to take any shot he wants which is key.

Just last night, he had 16 points in the first quarter. The beauty of it was the fact that he only had four with 5:39 left in the quarter. My point is, with a guy like Luka, we’re never really out of one of these bets until he’s off the floor. If he plays tonight, I think 10+ points in the first quarter is a very safe bet. Feels easy.

  • The Bet: Luka Doncic 10+ Points *1st Quarter (-105) – ESPN
