NBA Player Prop Pick #1: James Harden Drops Dimes

Playing point guard in the NBA is tough. Ask anybody. You have to be able to score on your own as well as set everyone else up to get theirs. On top of that, you have to be sure everyone is happy with how much they’re being fed. It’s the ultimate leadership role that only special people can do well.

Lucky for the Los Angeles Clippers, the boys are happy with James Harden’s leadership ability.

Here’s the thing with James, he’s a dime dropper. Always has been. So anytime we’re looking for an NBA bet, it’s wise to see where Harden’s assists are priced. Sometimes we can get lucky when Harden is in the right form against the right opponent. Like tonight.

Harden is certainly in great form at the moment. Over his last three games, he’s gone for 11+ assists in all three. What’s even better is, he’s averaging 17.3 potential assists over that stretch. That’s a healthy number for a guy like Harden when we need 10 actual assists. Especially since he’s going to see the Atlanta Hawks tonight.

Harden does his best work in uptempo environments and Atlanta is exactly that. They play at the NBA’s second-fastest pace which means more possessions for Harden to do his thing. That’s one reason why, over the last seven games, only two teams in the entire NBA have allowed more assists to the point guard position than the Hawks. We’re talking 11 per game. We only need 10. Feels easy.

NBA Player Prop Prediction #2: Darius Garland Also Drops Dimes

If we’re sticking with the assist theme for the night, we need to find another point guard. Luckily with such a big slate, we’ve got plenty of guys to consider. There are literally 10 games tonight, there has to be somebody.

Lucky for us, Darius Garland is in action tonight and to top it off, he’ll be “the guy” in the Cleveland backcourt tonight since Donovan Mitchell is out.

The assist market is a tricky one given the fact that most teams rotate guys in and out. We rarely find spots where one guy is facilitating the offense all night long racking up potential assists. So when we find a spot like that, we have to jump on it.

Darius Garland is in assist heaven tonight with Donovan Mitchell out. Sure he was in this spot the other night and only finished with eight dimes but the man had 20 potential assists. What the haters won’t tell you is that game was against the Brooklyn Nets who operate at the second slowest pace in the NBA. That’s not the case tonight.

The Cavs are in Memphis taking on the Grizzlies who literally run up and down the floor at 2000 mph. We’re talking the fastest pace in the NBA. So it’s no surprise, that over the last seven games, no team in the NBA has allowed more assists per game to the point guard position than they have. More possessions mean more opportunity. We shouldn’t be getting +235 for Garland to go for 10+ assists. Feels easy.
