The Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins meet Saturday afternoon in a cross-conference matchup between two teams looking to snap losing streaks. The puck drops at 3:00 PM ET on ABC with both Original Six clubs desperate for a win.

Boston enters on a five-game slide but Pittsburgh hasn’t fared much better lately, dropping four straight before a comeback OT victory over Philadelphia on Thursday. The NHL betting odds have the Penguins as slim -125 home favorites, with the Bruins at +105 on the moneyline. The total is set at 6 goals, juiced to the over at -115.

Let’s analyze the matchup and determine the best bets in our Bruins vs Penguins prediction for March 1.

Bruins vs Penguins Prediction

While I don’t love either side on the moneyline, I’m backing the Bruins +1.5 on the puck line at -290 odds. Boston has either won outright or covered the +1.5 puck line in 6 straight meetings with Pittsburgh dating back to early last season.

The Bruins’ losing streak is a bit misleading, as all five defeats have come by a single goal, including two in overtime. They outshot the Islanders 39-20 on Thursday, so the effort and process are there. The results should follow.

Conversely, Pittsburgh’s underlying numbers are dreadful. The Penguins have been outshot 75-49 in their last two games and outscored 23-13 over their past four. If not for a frantic comeback against the lowly Flyers, they’d be riding a five-game skid of their own.

Neither team has an elite goalie, as Boston’s Jeremy Swayman and Pittsburgh’s Alex Nedeljkovic both own save percentages below .900. That levels the playing field and likely makes this anyone’s game, which is why I prefer the Bruins on the puck line over the riskier moneyline wager.

The over also has some appeal given the Penguins’ defensive woes. Pittsburgh has allowed 5+ goals in three of the last four games. Boston’s offense has struggled to finish chances lately, but that could change against the Penguins’ sieve-like defense and AHL-caliber goalie.

Bruins vs Penguins Same Game Parlay

If you’re looking for a higher potential payout and don’t mind taking on some additional risk, consider building a Same Game Parlay at Bet365 Sportsbook. SGPs allow you to combine multiple bets from the same game into one larger parlay wager.

For Bruins-Penguins, I recommend tying the Bruins +1.5 puck line together with the Over 5.5 goals and a David Pastrnak anytime goal scorer prop. This three-leg parlay clocks in at attractive +410 odds, meaning a $100 bet would return $510 total if all three legs hit.

Pastrnak is a key reason to feel good about this Same Game Parlay. The superstar winger has been on an absolute tear, scoring three goals in his last two outings and tallying a point in 16 consecutive contests. He’s also enjoyed tremendous success against Pittsburgh recently, lighting the lamp in five of the past 10 head-to-head meetings.

Given Boston’s penchant for playing one-goal games and the Penguins’ shoddy defense (23 goals allowed in their last four), this SGP looks like a solid value at +410. The Bruins +1.5 provides some insurance in case they lose a close one, the Over 5.5 cashes if it’s a typical high-scoring Pens game, and a red-hot Pastrnak just needs to find the net once.

You can customize your own Same Game Parlay at Bet365 by combining props like alternate puck lines and totals, period or race to goals markets, and player stat over/unders.

Bruins vs Penguins Odds

Bet TypeBoston BruinsPittsburgh Penguins
Moneyline+105-125
Spread+1.5 (-290)-1.5 (+225)
TotalO 6 (-115)U 6 (-105)

The Penguins are narrow home favorites at -125 on the moneyline, with the Bruins coming back at +105. Boston is a heavy -290 favorite to cover the +1.5 puck line in a loss or win outright. Pittsburgh is +225 to win by 2+ goals.

The total is set at 6 goals, with the Over juiced to -115 and the Under at -105. The juice on the Over indicates some lean towards a higher-scoring game, which aligns with both teams’ recent defensive struggles and the absence of elite netminders.

A tie game after regulation (a fairly common NHL outcome) would return roughly +310 odds. If you like Boston to win a low-scoring, one-goal game in regulation, you can get +600 odds on 2-1 or 3-2 correct score bets.
