- No. 1 Auburn (26-2) looks to clinch at least a share of the SEC title when it travels to No. 17 Kentucky (19-9) Saturday, March 1 at Rupp Arena.
- The Tigers have only won twice in Lexington in their history, but enter as the consensus No. 1 team in the nation and 4.5-point favorites.
- We’ve got all you need to know about this Bluegrass showdown between Auburn and Kentucky, including a look at the best odds, analysis and prediction.
Auburn (26-2, 17-11 ATS) gets one of its toughest tests of the season when it takes on Kentucky (19-9, 14-13-1) at Rupp Arena Saturday night.
The Tigers have won five in a row, but haven’t won in Kentucky since 1988. A win for the Tigers clinches a share of the SEC title.
Kentucky has won the last two meetings and covered the spread easily each time.
The biggest game of the weekend is Saturday afternoon in Rupp Arena when Auburn takes on Kentucky. Read on for our full preview, look at the best odds and spread and our prediction.
Auburn vs Kentucky Odds & Spread
Odds as of Feb. 28 at DraftKings Sportsbook. Lock in on March Madness with the best DraftKings promo code available.

There’s some variance on the lines 24 hours before tip-off. Auburn is 4.5-point favorites at FanDuel and laying 5.5 at FanDuel. The total is 167.5 at DraftKings and 168.5 at FanDuel. Don’t be surprised if these all settle in the same spot.
Auburn has been the best team in college basketball this season, but against the spread they haven’t been as dominant. The Tigers are 17-11 against the spread, and just 3-2 in their last five games.
Kentucky is 4-2 in their last six games against the spread and 14-2 at home straight up this season. Neither team is a Wow against the total. Auburn is 17-11 over/under this season, Kentucky is 14-13-1. The best moneyline bet I see right now for Kentucky is +185 at DK Sportsbook and for Auburn -205 at FanDuel.
What’s At Stake for Auburn vs Kentucky
You have to understand the history and context of SEC basketball before laying a bet on this one. In the SEC, at least for basketball (football is a different story) Kentucky rules the roost. The school claims 49, yes, 49 SEC titles (sure, maybe a couple had to be vacated, but still).
This is the 25th time in program history that Kentucky has faced the No. 1 team in the nation. The Wildcats are 8-16 in those games. Kentucky has played the No. 1 team at Rupp Arena five times before Saturday. They are 3-2 in those games.
This season, Kentucky has beaten No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Florida and No. 5 Tennessee. A win over Auburn would be enormous.
Auburn vs Kentucky: The Players to Watch
Auburn is led by Johni Broome, a definite Player of the Year candidate and a lock to be the SEC Player of the Year. He’s grabbing 11 rebounds a game and 18.8 points. Incredibly Auburn has six players averaging in double figures. Offensively, Auburn is in the top five in just about every offensive category in the SEC, so they do everything well.
Kentucky has dealt with some injuries this season in their line-up. They got back point guard Lamont Butler from a shoulder injury for their last game against Oklahoma after a three-game absence. He looked rusty, fouling out in 20 minutes. Kentucky’s second-leading scorer Jaxson Robinson also came back after missing four games with a bad wrist in the win over Oklahoma.
At full strength Kentucky has the firepower to match Auburn.
Auburn vs Kentucky Prediction
- Kentucky +5.5 points (-118 at FanDuel)
- Over 168.5 (-115 at FanDuel)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a child of the SEC and I’ve seen Kentucky do this to other SEC programs for years. They come in feeling good and then get buried in blue at Rupp Arena. Kentucky will be backed by a loud crowd and for whatever reason, historically, Kentucky just always shoots lights out in moments like these. Plus, the refs will be pro-Kentucky. I’ve seen that too.
I know Auburn has been great this year, but they’re up against decades of dominance. I like Kentucky with the points and love the over because will teams can score in bunches.
