Props Pick: LeBron James Over 26.5 Points (-115)

At first blush, I was going to go all-in with Luka Doncic with his over point total, given that he’s scored 26 or more in ten straight against the Clips. However, he’s questionable to play in this one following a knee-on-knee collision Thursday. That gives me pause, so if he can’t make it, banging the over on Lebron James is critical.

The Clippers have also struggled of late, losing three of four to playoff bound teams (MIL, IND, DET), giving up an average of 117 points in the three losses.

LeBron has gone over the listed 26.5 line in five of his last eight against his LA rivals. He’s also put up 27 or more in three of his last four battles. If Doncic can’t go, the LeBron number will go up, so now I feel is the time to attack it, because even if Luka does play, he might make that total.

Per the NBA public betting trends, 81% of bets have been placed on the underdog Lakers on the moneyline and 89% to cover the spread. The Clippers are listed as a -172 moneyline favorite, with the Lakers coming in as a +144 underdog.

Clippers vs Lakers Injury Report

The huge question mark for this game is the health of Luka Doncic. He had a knee-on-knee collision Thursday against the Timberwolves, and is questionable for this affair. The Lakers could opt to play it safe on their star players birthday, given that he missed nearly two months with a calf injury before coming over in a blockbuster trade to Los Angeles.

Maxi Kleber (foot) has been ruled out for the Lakers. He hasn’t played since late January. For the Clippers, Norman Powell is questionable with a knee injury. He hasn’t competed since February 13th.

Clippers vs Lakers Predictions

• Los Angeles Lakers +4.5 (-110) at DraftKings

Late Thursday night, the betting line for this rivalry matchup was Lakers -1.5. That’s now flipped to Clippers -4.5. That would seem to indicate the books are aware of the very likelihood that Doncic won’t be able to make this one.

If Doncic and LeBron play, I’d very much want to wager the Lakers +144 on the moneyline. Seeing how there’s question marks, I can’t go all-in with that. However, the Lakers have won four of six against their LA rivals. I can see them losing the game, but they are still strong enough to cover the 4.5 point spread.

It’s pretty rare for the 4.5 point underdog to be wagered on so much by the public to not only cover, but to win outright. This is probably because the market hasn’t shifted yet towards bettors realizing Doncic won’t be able to suit up.
