Fresh off the franchise’s 3000th win, the Golden State Warriors (31-27, 14-14 away) visit the Orland Magic (29-31, 18-12 home) tonight. Online sportsbooks are bullish on Steph Curry and Co., pegging them as road chalk in the NBA odds. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:10pm PT / 7:10pm ET from the Kia Center, in Orlando, Florida.

These two teams are heading in opposite directions. Golden State has won six of seven since trading for Jimmy Butler, while Orlando has dropped 13 of 19.
Butler has brought leadership and tenacious defense to the Dubs, as well as secondary scoring. Playing alongside Curry, he hasn’t had to carry the offensive burden like he did in Miami. As a result, his numbers aren’t quite where they used to be, and he’s been profitable to bet against in the players props market.

Pick: Jimmy Butler Under 19.5 Points
Butler’s over/under points prop is 19.5 for tonight’s matchup. That’s a number we’re going to attack to the under, and also one he hasn’t cleared in four consecutive games. Jimmy Buckets’ usage rate is down from 24.7% last year, to 22.7% with Golden State. That rate has dipped to 19.7% over the last four games, while his points per 100 possessions is 5 points lower during that span than a season ago.
Warriors vs Magic Prediction
Since Butler’s arrival, the Warriors defense has turned the corner. They’ve yielded 111 points or less in each outing, holding two opponents below 99 points. They rank number one in defensive rating over the last two weeks, and tonight’s opponent just happens to be incredibly stingy themselves.
Orlando boasts the best scoring defense in the league. They’re tops at defending the three point line, while ranking fifth in points in the paint against. Their length gives teams fits, and their latest skid has had nothing to do with defense. The Magic are eighth in defensive rating over the last 15 games.
Offensively however, has been a different story. Orlando has the second worst offensive rating over the past 15 games. The only team worse is Charlotte, and Golden State just held them to 92 points.
This leads us to targeting under 212 points. Both these teams play slow, which limits the amount of possessions for their opponent, leading to less offense. Orlando plays at the league’s second slowest pace, while the Warriors are middle of the pack in that category.
