Last year’s winner, the Tennessee Volunteers, is the favorite to win the College World Series again in 2025. The Volunteers opened at +700 odds but have moved to +400, meaning that sportsbooks are giving them a 20% chance to repeat as CWS champions. A $20 bet on Tennessee would win $80, resulting in a payout of $100.

Here are some notes on the notable odds movement we have seen for the 2025 College World Series:

  • [March 31] Tennessee remains the favorite in the 2025 College World Series odds. After starting the season 20-0, Tennessee saw its college baseball odds move from +700 to +400.
  • [March 31] Texas A&M has been one of the biggest disappointments at the start of the season. The Aggies have the talent of a CWS champion, but with a new manager, there were some question marks heading into the year. They were once +800 to win the College World Series, but they are now down to +5000 after a 13-14 start. They are an abysmal 1-8 vs the SEC in 2025.
  • [March 31] Clemson has seen their College World Series odds improve from +2800 to +1000. Their strong pitching and lineup have led the sixth-ranked Tigers to a 26-5 record.
  • [February 21] A week into the college baseball season, LSU and Texas A&M both saw their odds improve slightly, while Tennessee stayed at +700. North Carolina and Oregon State have seen the biggest shifts in their odds. North Carolina opened at +1800 and is now +1200. The Tar Heels went 4-0 on their opening weekend. Oregon State moved from +2500 to +1800 after an impressive start to the season. The Beavers had some uncertainty heading into the 2025 season as an independent. Oregon State has the talent to win the College World Series, but they will have an interesting path to Omaha not being in a conference. After going 4-0 in the College Baseball Classic, oddsmakers saw enough to improve Oregon State’s odds.
  • [February 12] After winning the 2024 College World Series, Tennessee opened as the +700 favorite to win the tournament in 2025. LSU (+800) and Texas A&M (+850) are not far behind Tennessee.

College World Series Favorites

Tennessee (+400)

After winning the College World Series last season, Tennessee opened as the favorite to win the National Championship again. They broke the curse of the 1-seed as they became the first #1 overall seed to win the College World Series since 1999.

Tennessee dominated the entire 2024 season winning 60 games and going an impressive 9-1 in the NCAA Tournament. They lost some key contributors from that 2024 team, but they still return plenty of talent and had some success in the portal, including Louisville transfer Gavin Killen who hit .330 last season.

Their two key returners are shortstop Dean Curley and outfielder Hunter Ensley, both of whom were named Preseason All-SEC. Tennessee is looking to become the seventh team in history to win back to back College World Series. South Carolina was the last program to do it in 2010 and 2011.

The Volunteers started the season with a 20-game winning streak, and they are now 26-2 overall. They have not had a championship hangover and appear ready to compete for another CWS title this summer.

LSU (+750)

The LSU Tigers won the College World Series in 2023 behind the arm of Paul Skenes and the bat of Dylan Crews. Last year, they lost in the Chapel Hill Regional to North Carolina in a win or go home game. 2024 was not a bad season for a rebuilding year in Baton Rouge.

This season, they look poised to make their return to Omaha. They have six offensive starters coming back, including slugger Jared Jones who hit 28 home runs last season. The bad news for LSU is that they lost eight pitchers to the MLB Draft. Their season outlook will depend on how the pitchers they brought in via the transfer portal will do. LSU got two talented pitchers from midmajor programs in Zac Cowan and Jacob Mayers, who will be looking to have strong seasons.

LSU is 26-3 and 7-2 in the SEC. They have looked every bit the part of a College World Series contender in 2025.

Arkansas (+900)

Arkansas has become a regular in the College World Series and is poised to make another appearance in 2025. They have reached the CWS eleven times and have been there most recently in 2018, 2019, and 2023. The Razorbacks have started the season with a 26-3 record and are an impressive 8-1 vs SEC opponents.

Their lineup is led by sophomore outfielder Charles Davalan, who is hitting .402 with nine home runs to start the 2025 campaign. Wehiwa Aloy has also been great for the Razorbacks with 10 home runs hit in 2025.

Arkansas has impressive pitching depth, which is important to have in a contender. Their ace, Gabe Gaeckle, struggled in his first few starts but seems to have found his groove. Despite his struggles, the Razorbacks still had strong pitching to start of the year. They are ranked No. 2 in the country despite having the third-best odds.

How to Bet on the College World Series

Pre-tournament odds: When betting on CWS futures, the best value can be found in the first few weeks of the season. The odds are available before the season starts, so you can call your shot on a team you like with the best odds. An example of this is Tennessee. Another great time to place your College World Series bets is before the NCAA Tournament begins in early June. This way, you have all the information gathered from the regular season before placing your wager.

Lastly, you can wait until right before the College World Series begins. You know which eight teams have made it, you know the matchups and the path of each team, and you can see how they have done in the NCAA Tournament.

Research and analysis: Be confident in your College World Series futures. The best way to accomplish this is by staying informed on the team you would like to bet on pre-tournament. Consider the team’s pitching depth, lineup, and previous success in the tournament.

College baseball is a high-scoring sport, and you will notice a lot of teams have great hitting, but the pitching depth is what separates good teams from great teams. Even midmajors typically have a great Day 1 starter, but then utilize their bullpen for the rest of the series. It is also worth noting that the SEC has won the last five College World Series and six of the last seven.

Timing is important: With any bet, you want to maximize your value. If there is a team you believe can win the CWS, try to bet them earlier in the season for the best odds. Also, if a team you like goes on a tough stretch, which can happen in a 56-game season, trust your research that they can get back on track.

Their odds likely dropped during the losing streak, so you can get them at a good number to win it all.

Overall, stay informed on the teams you are betting on and how their odds move throughout the season.
