It’s been a rough, rough week for us NBA bettors with the association on break. We were betting soccer, hockey, you name it. But that’s all behind us now because the NBA is back in our lives. The best way to celebrate is by betting it so that’s exactly what we will do. I know some of us are a little rusty since we haven’t broken down an NBA game in almost a week but don’t worry: I’ve already gone through the entire slate and, by the grace of God, I’ve found two plus-money bangers that we can all be proud of. Our lives are about to change for the better and all you have to do is keep reading to find out how. Feels right.

NBA Prop Pick #1: James Harden Can Still Score

Sometimes people need to be reminded that the old guys still exist. We all know how easy it is to get caught up with the next new thing, so staying grounded with the classics is necessary sometimes. We were given this world, we didn’t make it.

Lucky for us, James Harden is making it easy to remember that he can still score whenever he wants.

I know what the haters are going to say, “Slop, James Harden is a dishman these days.” As usual, the haters have it all wrong. Sure, James is definitely dishing the rock. He’s averaging almost nine assists per game. But what the haters are forgetting is that James can score the ball just as easily as he can dish it out.

The thing about James these days is he picks and chooses his spots to score based on matchups. For instance, he’s seen the Utah Jazz are bottom three in the NBA in points per game allowed to the point guard position. In his last three games against the Jazz, Harden has gone for 32, 23 and 41. He’s a matchup guy.

Why is this important? Because no team in the NBA has allowed more points per game this season to opposing point guards than the Milwaukee Bucks. With the way they play defense, they dare the point guard to shoot the ball. Nobody in their right mind should dare James Harden to shoot the ball. The last time Harden saw Milwaukee, he dropped a 40-burger on them. We only need 25 this time around. Feels right.

NBA Prop Pick #2: Chris Paul Is Still Point God

We’re going to stay with the vintage theme but this time we’ll go with another stat category. It’s the assist category and it’s one of my favorite ways to bet the NBA. Sure, the stat corrections can be a pain in the ass with the assists category but whatever. We’re battle-tested by now.

And for my money, it doesn’t get any better than Chris Paul when it comes to the assist.

Here’s the thing with this one, Paul doesn’t play as much as he used to. The man is old. There’s no other way to say it. He’s been in the NBA for decades now and he just can’t play 40 minutes a night anymore. Old people just don’t do that sort of thing.

Still, Paul plays enough to stack dimes which is all we care about here. Due to the limited minutes, we can’t really ladder him but taking him for 8+ at plus-money is definitely in play. For starters, he’s done this in four of his last six games and each of his last two. De’Aaron Fox is getting his fair share of potential assists but Paul is very efficient with his. Just like he’s always been.

The beauty of this thing is, the Spurs will see the Phoenix Suns Thursday night and they’re third worst in the NBA in terms of assists allowed to point guards over the last seven games. We just saw Amen Thompson drop 11 dimes on them last time out and he’s not even a point guard. If he can get 11 assists, surely Point God can get eight. Feels right.

  • The Bet: Chris Paul 8+ Assists (+110) – FanDuel
