The Los Angeles Lakers (32-20, 19-6 home, 28-23-1 ATS) host the Charlotte Hornets (13-39, 4-19 away, 27-23-2 ATS) on Wednesday night at crypto.com Arena (7:10 pm PT/10:10 pm ET), which marks the return of the NBA after the 2025 All-Star Game. Lakers vs Hornets is alone on the schedule on Wednesday due to the fact that it is a make-up game from early January, when the Lakers had two games postponed by the wildfires that ravaged southern California. Though LeBron James is dealing with a foot injury, his Lakers are still massive favorites in Wednesday’s NBA odds.
Hornets vs Lakers Odds
Los Angeles is laying a full 12 points in the Hornets vs Lakers spread, and is a short -700 on the moneyline, which carries an 87.5% implied win probability. The Hornets are +500 road underdogs (16.67% implied win probability) to win just their fifth road game of the season. The total is sitting at 228.5 with the over slightly favored at -115.

Charlotte has been the single-best under bet in the NBA this season, going 19-33 O/U through its first 52 games, a 63.5% under rate. The Lakers are 27-25 O/U thus far.
LeBron James (foot) is listed as questionable for Wednesday night’s game, while Maxi Kleber remains out post-surgery. No players are listed on Charlotte’s injury report.
Before the All-Star break, the Lakers went 1-1 in their first two games with Luka Doncic in the lineup, beating Utah 132-113 at home and then losing to that same Jazz team 131-119 on the road two days later.
Those were Luka’s first two games back from a calf injury he suffered on Christmas Day. He played just 47 minutes total, averaging 15.0 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 4.0 APG in his first two games in purple and gold.
Charlotte lost three in a row and nine of ten prior to the break, most-recently getting routed 102-86 by the Magic in Orlando. While the Hornets have one of the better ATS record in the league, covering 54.% of all games to date, they are only .500 ATS on the road (11-11-1). The Lakers are 16-9 ATS at home.
CHA Hornets vs LA Lakers Public Betting Splits
Wednesday’s NBA public betting splits show the public absolutely hammering the over. As of 7:15 pm ET, 94% of game-total handle was on over 228.5 along with 89% of tickets.
The public also has a strong lead to the Lakers moneyline, putting 63% of handle on LA to win on a staggering 94% of moneyline wagers.
The ATS splits could hardly be closer, though. The Lakers are getting 51% of ATS money on 64% of bets.

Luka Doncic (27.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 7.5 APG) is at the top of the point totals on Wednesday, with a O/U of 26.5. LaMelo Ball (27.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 7.2 APG) has the highest total on the Charlotte side at 24.5.
Despite his uncertain injury status, LeBron (24.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 9.0 APG) has the highest assist total of the night at 8.5.
Hornets vs Lakers Predictions & Picks
I have been fading Doncic in his early days as a Laker and I’m not going to stop now. He was the undisputed #1 option throughout his career in Dallas but now he’s playing alongside the GOAT and – even when his minutes increase – he isn’t going to have as high a usage rate as he did as a Maverick.
If LeBron doesn’t play tonight, my Doncic fade could go up in smoke. But if LeBron is in the lineup, which I expect him to be, there just isn’t enough ball to go around for Doncic to post big assist numbers. LeBron has basically been running the point all season, and Austin Reaves is averaging a career-high 6.2 assists per game, as well.
I’m also betting the over on LaMelo’s point total of 24.5, which is nearly three full points lower than his season average. Ball entered the All-Star break in a bit of a scoring slump, exceeding 24.5 points just once in his last six games as he battled an ankle injury. But he started this season on fire, scoring 30-plus in 12 of his first 18 games, and I expect more of that LaMelo after a long All-Star hiatus.
CHA vs LAL picks:
- Doncic under 7.5 assists (-120)
- LaMelo Ball over 24.5 points (-115)
