Yellow is also deadlast on the list of all-time color choices since Super Bowl 22 with just three. Clear/water leads the way with eight in that span, followed by orange (6), blue (4), and purple (4, including each of the last two seasons). None was dominant in the previous generation, cashing in 11 times from Super Bowl 22 to Super Bowl 38, not that you could bet on the Gatorade color at that time. But none has only been the winning bet twice in the last 20 editions of the Super Bowl.

If you’re wondering why the yellow/green has such short odds, and just how far the price has moved, look no further than the Gatorade color betting splits from BetMGM. Over the last two-ish weeks, yellow/green has moved all the way from a +300 second-favorite to the -168 chalk.

Yellow/green is getting a massive 50% of all money bet on the Gatorade color prop on BetMGM, and that’s come on just 24% of the wagers.

The fervor over yellow/green is partly explained by Philadelphia using green the last time they won the big game (plus the fact that the public is heavily leaning towards the Eagles in the NFL public betting splits for the Super Bowl) and the fact that the Eagles dumped yellow/green on coach Nick Sirianni after winning the NFC Championship Game over the Washington Commanders two weekends ago.

In order for yellow/green to have positive expected value at -168 odds, the wager would need a 63% chance of actually winning.

Red/pink was the opening favorite at +250 and has suck all the way to a +700 longshot, which is just a 12.50% implied win probability.

It’s surprising that purple is languishing as such a distant second-favorite, though. The Chiefs have dumped purple on Andy Reid each of the last two years. It’s clearly a favorite on their sideline and Kansas City remains the slight betting favorite at most sportsbooks.

For my money, the best value this year is currently on purple at +300.
