Both teams have some key injuries. Houston big man Steven Adams (ankle) is listed as doubtful, while veteran point Fred VanVleet (ankle) has been ruled out, with coach Ime Udoka saying FVV is week-to-week. The Timberwolves will be down their New York transplants that came over in the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. Julius Randle (groin) and wing Donte DiVincenzo (toe) are both still weeks away from returning.

Not a surprise to see Anthony Edwards hold the highest prop of any player in this matchup at 29.5. Ant is seventh in the league in scoring at 26.5 points per game, and is coming off a 49-point bomb against the Bulls.

He’s topped 30 points seven times in his last 12 starts, though he’s been held Under this total in both meetings vs the Rockets this season.

Alperen Sengun and Rudy Gobert share the top rebounding total at 10.5, while veteran Mike Conley matches Edwards with the top assist prop at 5.5.

Jalen Green has the Rockets’ highest scoring total at 22.5 points.

Houston Rockets vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction

  • Rockets vs Timberwolves pick: Rockets +1.5 (-118)
  • Rockets vs Timberwolves: Thompson Under 15.5 points (-111)

The Rockets dropped their second to the Brooklyn Nets in three games, falling 99-97, in a wild finish that had them surrender back-to-back three-pointers to blow a 4-point lead with less than 10 seconds to play.

That ugly loss leaves them just a half-game up on the Denver Nuggets for third in the West.

Houston doesn’t lose a lot, but when it does, they struggle to score the basketball. In three of their last five losses, the Rockets have failed to crack 99 points, and they’re averaging just 105 points in their losses on the season.

Over this recent losing skid, they’re getting worked inside, allowing 52.7 paint points. One of the best teams in defensive transition, the Rockets have allowed 18.3 fast-break points in their last three road games, nearly five more points than their regular season average.

Still, the T-Wolves would gladly change places with Houston. They broke their 2-game losing streak with a 127-108 win over the Bulls, but Minnesota is still in the play-in section of the Western Conference in the 7-spot.

It was their first win in three without Randle, who is second on the team in scoring at 18.9 points per game. On the season, Minnesota is just 21st in scoring, putting up 111.1 points per game.

The teams have split their first two regular-season matchups, but the Timberwolves have owned this head-to-head, winning eight of the last 10, though they’re just 6-4-0 against the spread.

But Houston does well with a rest advantage; their 7-3-0 mark ATS is a Top-3 figure in the NBA, while the Timberwolves are just 3-4-0 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back. Houston is also 11-6-0 ATS after a loss.

Anthony Edwards needed to go supernova for the Wolves to get a win Wednesday, but the Rockets and their top-end defense should be able to contain him better, exposing a roster that won’t be able to generate enough buckets to win.
