The New York Rangers (24-22-4) head to Beantown to battle the Boston Bruins (25-22-6) in an Original Six matchup on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 PM Eastern Time at TD Garden, with national coverage provided by ABC.

The Broadway Blueshirts enter as appealing -110 moneyline underdogs in a pick’em matchup. The over/under is set at 5.5 goals. Can New York earn their fifth win in the last six meetings against their arch-rivals? Let’s dive into the matchup and find out.

Here is our Rangers vs Bruins prediction for Saturday afternoon.

Rangers vs Bruins Prediction

I’m backing the Rangers to get it done on the road in Boston. New York has had the Bruins’ number of late, winning four of the last five head-to-head meetings, including a 2-1 victory at MSG earlier this season. The Blueshirts also boast a 4-2 record in their last six visits to TD Garden.

The biggest factor working in New York’s favor is the massive disparity in rest. The Rangers last played on January 28th, giving them a full four days off between games. Meanwhile, the Bruins will be playing their second game in three days after hosting Winnipeg on Thursday. Having fresh legs is a huge advantage at this point in the season.

New York will also benefit from a massive jolt of energy after re-acquiring forward J.T. Miller from the Canucks on Friday. The 31-year-old put up 437 points in 404 games with the Rangers from 2016-2022 before being traded to Vancouver. Even if Miller isn’t in the lineup Saturday, his presence alone should provide a huge emotional lift.

The Rangers have a sizeable edge between the pipes in this matchup. Perennial Vezina contender Igor Shesterkin is likely to start for New York after the layoff. The 29-year-old is 17-17-2 with a solid 2.83 GAA and .909 save percentage. He allowed just one goal on 22 shots the last time he faced the B’s (Dec. 2023).

Boston’s Jeremy Swayman has struggled mightily of late, allowing 3+ goals in 7 of his last 9 appearances. The 26-year-old is 16-17-4 with a bloated 3.03 GAA and .895 save percentage. If Swayman doesn’t regain his form quickly, it could be a long afternoon for the B’s.

The advanced metrics also favor the Blueshirts in this spot. Since the start of the calendar year, the Rangers have posted a strong 50.57 xGF%, 48.89 SCF% and 52.08 HDCF%. They are generating far more quality scoring chances than the Bruins, who own a 45.97 xGF%, 46.19 SCF% and 42.52 HDCF% in that span.

Bank on New York’s strong recent play against divisional opponents to continue. The Rangers are 10-5 straight up in their last 15 games versus Atlantic Division foes. I’m riding the well-rested road dogs to get it done in a close, hard-fought affair at the Garden.

Rangers vs Bruins Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
NY Rangers +1.5 (-265) -110 Over 5.5 (-130)
BOS Bruins -1.5 (+210) -110 Under 5.5 (+110)

The Rangers are currently a -110 moneyline pick’em on the road in Boston. With both teams at the same price, a $110 wager on either side would return a $100 profit with a win.

On the puck line, New York is getting +1.5 goals at -265 odds, while Boston is laying -1.5 goals at +210. The Rangers bet cashes if they win outright or lose by a single goal. The Bruins need to prevail by 2+ goals to cover the puck line.

The total has been set at 5.5 goals. The under 5.5 is a slight +110 underdog, with the over favored at -130 juice. If you’re expecting a lower-scoring game, there’s some value on the under.

Odds as of February 1, 2025 at ESPN Sportsbook. Claim your ESPN Bet promo to bet Rangers vs Bruins today.

  • The Rangers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games against Boston.
  • The Rangers are 4-2 SU in their last 6 road games versus the Bruins.
  • The Rangers are 10-5 SU in their last 15 games against Atlantic Division opponents.

The Rangers have consistently had Boston’s number in recent meetings, winning four of the last five matchups overall and four of six at TD Garden. New York’s strong play against divisional foes, going 10-5 SU in their last 15, also bodes well for another road win.

Expect Shesterkin to outduel the struggling Swayman between the pipes as the well-rested Rangers grind out a massive victory over their Original Six rivals. The extra prep time gives Peter Laviolette’s group a significant leg up as they push for a playoff spot.

Back the Blueshirts to win outright at an appealing -110 moneyline price in Boston. The under 5.5 goals also makes sense in a tightly-contested affair.
