The Cleveland Cavaliers (38-9, 22-3 home) seem to have put their season-long three-game losing skid behind them. They’ll now seek their third straight victory as they face the Atlanta Hawks (22-25, 11-13 away), a team in the midst of a season-worst six-game slide. Even with Cleveland playing its second game in as many nights, they are still a healthy home favorite in Thursday’s NBA odds.

Cleveland Cavaliers-10.5 (-105)-500U 238.5 (-115)

The Hawks are 10.5-point road dogs, with the Cavaliers at an extremely short -500 on the moneyline. The scoring line is set at 238.5 points – a figure these teams have passed just once in the last four head-to-head matchups.

Atlanta is limping into Thursday. Bogdan Bogdanovic (personal) and Clint Capela (back) have both been ruled out, while Trae Young (hamstring) is considered probable. The team is already without wing Jalen Johnson, who was just announced as done for the year with a torn labrum.

Cleveland will be without Isaac Okoro (shoulder) and Dean Wade (knee). Sam Merrill (illness), Darius Garland (rest) and Caris LeVert (wrist) all missed Wednesday’s 126-106 win in Miami. Garland should check back into the lineup, while Merrill and LeVert’s status has yet to be announced.

NBA player props from FanDuel Sportsbook on January 30.

If Young is able to go, he does have the highest scoring prop set for Atlanta at 23.5 points. Cleveland all-star Donovan Mitchell has the highest overall scoring total at 24.5.

The Cavaliers’ big men are at the top of the rebounding totals, with Jarrett Allen logging the highest number at 10.5 and Evan Mobley next at 9.5 rebounds. Onyeka Okongwu has Atlanta’s top rebound prop at 8.5.

Young has the highest assist number at 9.5 — fitting for the guy who leads the NBA in assists at 11.4 per contest. Darius Garland has the highest assist total for the Cavaliers, at 7.5.

Hawks vs Cavaliers Predictions

  • Hawks vs Cavaliers pick: Hawks +10.5 points (-115)
  • Hawks vs Cavaliers prop bet: Young Over 9.5 assists (-136)

Atlanta has had Cleveland’s number this season: they’re the only team to have multiple wins over the Cavs, who hold the East’s best record at 38-9.

It all revolves around the play of Young, who has been a dynamo in both contests. In the 135-124 shootout on November 27, Ice Trae piled up 20 points and 22 assists, as the Hawks went a sharp 20-for-42 from the 3-point line.

He followed it up with a 21-point, 11-assist effort in Atlanta’s 117-101 two nights later, but that might have more to do with the Cavaliers’ dismal shooting. Cleveland shot just 38-for-93 from the field, including an 11-for-38 mark from downtown, just a 28.9% clip.

It’s been not so great at the present though. The Hawks are coming off a 100-96 loss to the Rockets, the third straight game they’ve been held under 97 points during this 6-game skid. However, Atlanta’s been inside 10 points of the decision in five of those losses.

Cleveland looks to have shaken themselves out of this lull as all-star weekend nears. After beating the Thunder in showdown of the two best teams in the NBA, the Cavs lost five of nine, including three straight to Houston (twice) with Philly sandwiched in between.

If there is some consolation, Cleveland was in every game, losing by a total of eight points across those games. They have bounced back, with dominant double-digit wins over the Pistons and Heat.

The Cavs are also pretty good playing on consecutive nights, going 7-2 straight up, though just 5-4-0 against the spread. I think this follows the same script: Cleveland should beat Atlanta for the first time this season, but look for the Hawks to keep it close enough to cover.
