Pistons vs Rockets Prediction
- Houston Rockets -7.5 (-110)
Monday will mark the second meeting of the season between these two teams. Houston took the first, 101-99 in Detroit, led by 27 points from Alperen Sengun. Neither team was efficient from the floor, with the Rockets putting up dreadful numbers from behind the arc.
Houston shot just 20.6% from three on 34 attempts. The Rockets aren’t known for their shooting prowess, but rather their play at the other end of the floor. They rank fourth in defensive net rating this season, and second in opponent effective field goal percentage.
Houston #Rockets record 41 games into the season over the last 3 seasons:

Houston leads the league in defending inside the three-point line, and surrender the third fewest makes from beyond the arc. Detroit ranks middle of the pack in most offensive categories, and struggles to generate offense when Cade Cunningham isn’t firing on all cylinders.
The former first overall pick is enjoying a career-season, but has had to shoulder a heavier scoring load since Jaden Ivey went down. Cunningham managed only 20 points in back-to-back losses over the weekend, with the team shooting below 28% from three in both outings.
Ivey was Detroit’s second leading scorer when he injured his leg at the beginning of the month, and isn’t expected back anytime soon.
At the other end of the floor, Houston can overcome its inefficiency thanks to a dominant presence down low. The Rockets lead the league in offensive rebounding percentage and offensive boards per game. That leads to plenty of second chance opportunities, and an NBA-high 94 shot attempts per contest.
Houston also excels at scoring in the paint. They average the seventh most points down low in the NBA, while surrendering the eighth fewest.
If Detroit wants to try and pick up the pace, that will suit the Rockets just fine. They average the second most fast-break points in the league, and permit the third fewest.
Pistons vs Rockets Player Props
- Alperen Sengun Over 15.5 Rebounds + Assists
Switching over to the NBA props market, where we’re targeting Sengun’s rebounds + assists prop. The “Michael Jordan of Turkey” as he’s referred to by his head coach, is taking on a much heavier rebound load lately, as two of Houston’s top-three rebounders are injured.
Jabari Smith Jr. has already been ruled out for this contest, while Amen Thompson is questionable. Neither played in Saturday’s win, and Sengun took full advantage. He piled up 15 rebounds and 6 assists.
Most APG by a Center this season:
9.9 — Nikola Jokic
6.3 — Domantas Sabonis
5.1 — Alperen Sengun pic.twitter.com/psTAdeoRS8— StatMamba (@StatMamba) January 18, 2025
Sengun has back-to-back double-digit rebound games, and 26 double-doubles on the season. He’s top-10 in the NBA in rebounding, and third among centers in assists, trailing only perennial NBA MVP odds contender Nikola Jokic and Domantas Sabonis.
