After falling in five games in last year’s Western Conference final, the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-1, 1-0 home, 1-2 ATS) look for a measure of revenge against the Dallas Mavericks (2-1, 0-1 away, 1-2 ATS) on Tuesday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis (6:40 pm CT/7:40 pm ET). The T-wolves, who went 30-11 at home last season and cruised in their home-opener on Saturday (112-101 vs Toronto), are listed as 4.5 to 5.5-point favorites, depending on the sportsbook.
Mavericks vs Timberwolves Predictions
- Timberwolves -4.5 (-115) at BetMGM
- Julius Randle over 21.5 points (-110) at DraftKings
Sascha Paruk’s 2024-25 NBA betting record: 7-4 (+2.98 units). All wagers 1 unit unless stated otherwise.
The early returns on the Karl-Anthony Towns-for-Julius Randle deal are positive for the Wolves. After a relatively quiet 16-point night in the season-opener – Randle’s first game since January 2024 – the former Knick led Minnesota in scoring in each of the last two games, both wins. Randle dropped 33 points on 12-of-17 shooting in a 117-15 win at the Kings on Thursday, and followed that up with 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a 112-101 victory over the Raptors in Minny’s home-opener on Saturday.
The Mavericks played at the seventh-fastest pace last year (100.6) and had just the 18th-best Defensive Rating. While the addition of longtime Warrior Klay Thompson should certainly help with the team’s three-point shooting (which was ), Dallas really didn’t do anything to improve at the defensive end of the floor in the offseason.
Minnesota ran away with a pair of home victories against Dallas in the regular season last year (118-110 on Dec. 28 and 121-87 on Jan. 31) before losing all three home games in the West finals) and went 3-1 overall against the Mavs in the 2023-24 regular season, averaging 116.5 PPG, well above their 113.0 PPG average for the season as a whole.

With Dallas coming off a 110-102 win over Utah last night, a game in which Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and PJ Washington all played 33 minutes or more, I expect Minnesota to maintain its regular-season dominance over the Mavs on Tuesday night.
