OKC took the West by storm last year, smashing their preseason win total of 44.5 by going 57-25 and tying Denver for the best record in the conference. With SGA emerging as a true MVP threat – he starts the season as the +402 second-favorite in the NBA MVP odds – the Thunder won’t be sneaking up on anyone this year. They are the +300 favorites to win the Western Conference and sit second only the reigning-champion Celtics in the NBA championship odds.

Denver was an absolute beast at home last year, going 33-8, but guess which team handed the Nuggets two of those eight losses at Ball Arena? If you said OKC, you’re right. The Thunder earned a 118-117 win at Denver on Dec. 16 and followed that up with a 119-93 stomping on Dec. 29, led by 40 from SGA.

There is some roster turnover on the OKC side but it should be for the better. Josh Giddey, a 33% three-point shooter, is now with the Bulls, replaced by two-guard Alex Caruso, a 40% assassin from beyond the arc. The Thunder, who led the NBA in 3P% last year, connecting at a 38.9% clip, project to be even better this year, which is a scary thought.
