A critical game in the NFC East takes place on Thursday in East Rutherford as the Dallas Cowboys (1-2, 1-0 away, 1-2 ATS) visit the New York Giants (1-2, 0-1 home, 1-2 ATS) with both teams hoping to get back to .500. Whoever loses tonight will also fall a game and a half behind Philadelphia and Washington in the division race.

Though the Cowboys have looked defensively porous and generally overmatched in back-to-back losses to New Orleans (44-19) and Baltimore (28-25), Dallas is a 5.5-point favorite in the Cowboys vs Giants odds for TNF.

And that line may grow before kickoff given that the Cowboys vs Giants public betting splits for Thursday Night Football heavily skew to the visitors.

Cowboys vs Giants Public Betting Splits

Team Spread ATS Handle% ATS Bet% Moneyline ML Handle% ML Bet% Total Points O/U Handle% O/U Bet%
Dallas Cowboys -5.5 82% 75% -275 87% 92% O 45.0 35% 44%
New York Giants +5.5 18% 25% +205 13% 8% U 45.0 65% 56%

NFL public betting splits as of 1:00 pm ET, Sep. 26.

Dallas is currently getting 82% of ATS handle as 5.5-point road favorites on 75% of the wagers. The moneyline splits are tilted even more heavily in Dallas’ favor, with 87% of the money and 92% of the wagers on the Cowboys to win straight-up as -275 road favorites.

That means only 13% of moneyline handle and a scant 8% of moneyline tickets are on the Giants to win.

The recent – and indeed not-so-recent – history between the teams goes a long way to explaining why the public is backing Dallas so heavily. As Ian Jones pointed out in his Cowboys vs Giants same-game parlay, the Cowboys have won six in a row against their NFC East rivals (both head-to-head matchups in each of the last three seasons) and 13 of the last 14 dating back to 2017.

The over/under splits are a little more balanced but the public still has a significant lean; as of 1:00 pm ET, 65% of money bet on the game total was on under 45 points. Dallas is one of two teams that’s 3-0 over/under this season (Baltimore is the other) but the Giants (0-3 O/U) are one of eight teams that has yet to hit the over during a generally low-scoring first three weeks of the season.

Darius Slayton (WR) Thumb Questionable

The Cowboys vs Giants injury reports show both teams nursing injuries in the secondary. On the Cowboys side, both cornerback Caelen Carson (shoulder) and safety Markquese Bell (ankle) are listed as doubtful. Carson is at the top of Dallas’ depth chart at LCB while Bell is second to Donovan Wilson at strong safety.

The Giants will be without both corners Adoree’ Jackson (calf) and Dru Phillips (calf), which is bad news against a team as pass-happy as the Cowboys. SDB’s Cowboys vs Giants player-prop picks include the over on Dak Prescott TD passes.
