The San Francisco Giants are in Arizona facing the Diamondbacks in a pivotal four-game NL West series. The division is wide open with three teams within two games of first place. This series could determine who makes the playoffs come October. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. EST from Chase Field.
The Giants won their fourth straight game on Thursday night, smashing the Diamondbacks 8-1. The D-backs are 7-6 since the All-Star break and are one game back from the Dodgers. The Giants are 6-5 since the All-Star break and need to string together consecutive wins to have a legitimate shot at the wild card spot.
The Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondback will be without third baseman Jake Lamb for the final third of the season. Lamb announced he will have season-ending surgery on his torn rotator cuff. Newly acquired Eduardo Escobar will slide into the every day third baseman role. Escobar is batting .276 with 15 HR and 66 RBI for the season.
Patrick Corbin has allowed four or more runs in four out of his last ten outings.

The Giants
The Giants have caught the injury bug as well. This week the Giants learned that they will be without Johnny Cueto and Pablo Sandoval for the rest of the season. The Giants are also still without the services of Brandon Belt and Jeff Samardzija, who were placed on the 10 day DL on August 2nd.
With Sandoval out for the season Evan Longoria will be the daily third baseman. Longoria had a slow start to the season before he was injured, but hit his first home run since returning last night.
